  1. My answer would be WATER!

SPRAY IT AS OFTEN AS POSSIBLE.

But You really can't do much about a cat wandering into your yard.

The girl suggesting a pellet gun is brainless... this could injure the cat or put it's eye out... so DON'T do that.

And you didn't really give much information that anyone can answer.

  2. Is it a stray?  If it is, call a local homeless cat society and see if they can trap it and get it neutered/spayed.  Perhaps they may be able to find a more suitable place for him/her.  If it belongs to a neighbor, talk to the neighbor and explain that the cat keeps coming on your property and as a homeowner you have the right to ask they control their cat, and if they cannot, that they need to help pay for the cost of deterrents to keep the cat away from your house...make sure you take video of the cat on your property to prove your claim.  If it's a stray, you are on your own to buy the products.  Most pet stores and home improvement stores (Home Depot/Lowes...) should have things.

  3. Motion sensor detectors are relatively inexpensive and work well in keeping unwanted cat visitors away, by either emitting a high frequency sound or by squirting a spray of water. See the link below for more details.

    Hope this helps.

  4. why not just take it to the animal shelter?

  5. i have heard through the grapevine that cats do not like the scent of moth balls... put some around the house and see if that works... i do agree water will also work...

  6. If the cat is a male and hanging around your house because of a female in season...  not much you can do.

However sometimes a garden hose helps as they do not like to be sprayed....  So if they find it is unpleasant at your house they will find another house to hang out at...  Could be the mouse and bug hunting is good around your house...  ???  If that is the case you may want the cat to hang out for a while... ???

Trying to look at all of the angles here as you did not give us very much information to respond to.

  7. In addition to the water spraying, try a sort of spray-on deterrent.  They have outdoor strength available at the pet store or local supercenter.  Just spray it around the outside of your house, on bushes and such.  I use it to keep my cats away from certain furniture and places on my deck.
