  1. You should train him

  2. Have you tried soft paws? They're inexpensive, but you do need to keep up maintenance on getting them changed out every so often...BUT my cats have stopped clawing furniture even after soft paws came off after having them on for 6 months

  3. My vet told me about a product called "feliway" that's used to stop undesirable behavior such as scratching or urine marking. It comes in the form of a spray and a plug-in. You can buy it at some pet stores and online. It worked wonders for my cats and I bet it will do the same for you!

  4. when my cat scratches the furniture we spray him with water

  5. If you don't have the time to train your cat (or you don't know how to train them), you could always buy nail caps.  Your vet can glue them onto your cat's nails for you and they aren't very expensive to buy.  Nail caps are painless and, although you may need to replace them every now and then, are a great alternative to declawing.  Once they have the caps on, your cat can scratch to their heart's content.

Here is a website that sells them:

    http://www.softpaws.com/

They're not the only ones that sell nail caps, but it's a good place to find information.

Good luck - however you choose to do it, I hope you manage to quell your cat's behaviour.

  6. make it some toys,  i make ours pipe cleaners and roll them around a pencil to make them swirly, or tinfoil balls, they like to swat, make them some scratching posts... mine still tend to scratch my parents bed for some reason n they have like 4 scratching pysosts, and a bunch of toys.

  7. i have taped my couches. my cat ziggy thinks it is funny and try to pull the tape off the couch. you can try that. they make stuff a spray called bitter apple. i read in a book that they do not like perfume and you can spray it where they scratch.

  8. get a scratching post.

  9. There is a product called Soft Paws, it covers your cat's claws and keeps them from scratching furniture.  You can put them on yourself, or get the groomer at PetSmart.

  10. more toys stuffed

  11. I also tried the spray and found that it didn't work. Try a product called Sticky Paws. It's a double sided tape that you put on the corners where ever they scratch. They don't like the feel so they stop and it doesn't hurt the furniture. I had a piece on my couch for six months and it peeled right off with no residue. My cat had been clawing for weeks, and this stuff stopped her in a day. We kept it on for a while just in case she tried again, but she never did.

Also, put the scratching post right next to the corner where they scratch. That gives them an option to use the post. If you don't want it to stay there you can slowly move it once the cat starts to use it.

If you have posts and the cat doesn't use them, try getting the horizontal pads. Some cats would rather use the pads than a post. Try different coverings too. One of mine will only use the pad, one likes the post with the rope on it and the other uses either. None of mine will use a post with carpet.

A lot of people recommend the Soft Paws, but I have never tried them. I have heard some things about them though, like they constantly fall off. Also I have heard that they can keep the cat from retracting their claws which can be painful and uncomfortable for the cat.

  12. You could de-claw your cat, or you can get toys that have cat nip in them cuz cats go crazy over that stuff and it will distract them from clawing your furniture and hope they will stop.
