Question:

What can I do to lower my fuel spending?

I am trying to see if there is anything I can do to bring down the amount of money we are spending on fuel every month. My husband has to drive about 45 minutes to work and back everyday. Thankfully, our SUV gets pretty good gas mileage, about 21-23 I think per gallon. However, we are still spending 45$ to fill it up at least three times every two weeks. Carpooling is not an option, as there is no one (NO ONE) in the area who works at the same or a nearby area. On top of that, his schedule varies at times and on short notice. We can't get another vehicle right now (I'd LOVE a Prius) because we owe more than the vehicle is worth and will just have a higher payment (if we even get approved) so that would offset any fuel savings. Any ideas? Thanks!

  1. We have a Capital One credit card which gives "reward points" which we have always used for airline tickets. I checked the website and found out that I could trade those points in for gas cards at Exxon. I used all my points because I knew we wouldn't be flying this year, and got $600 worth of gas. I know it won't last long, but at least we are making good use of those points!

  2. well one thing that you could try is finding gas cheaper somewhere else and buy it in bulk.

You could having your car checked to see if it could get better fuel milage but it probably cant since it is already getting such high mileage.

One more idea is that you could try to find somebody that could raise your car's value so that the owed money wasn't higher than the car's value then trade it in on Prius or something else.

    Hope I helped :)
