What can I do to make my PC run faster?

I have ATT DSL, and it was faster when I first started using it. I have already gone into "tools" and deleted the cookies and all that stuff, and I have done the disk cleanup and defrag, so why is it when I try to go online, it takes forever to go from one page to another?

u can always add more RAM memory,

get a better Processor such as Core 2 quad.

but if ur net was running faster before and not now, then that means that u have a virus thats slowing down ur pc.

u need to clean all ur viruses to speed up ur pc

Try doing the following things:

1. Run a "defragment" of your drive if you have not done it.

2. Run a virus scan; I hope you have an anti virus with up to date virus definitions. If not go to this website:  http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ and run a complete scan of your computer free of charge. You can do this any time. However to have real time protection you have to buy the program and download it.

3.  Go into system restore, and disable system restore. Then reboot your computer. Then go into system restore again and enable it. What you do when this is done is you delete all the old restore points and this reduces a lot of your filespace.

4.  If you are not jusing a "Jump Drive" back up large video and picture files on a jump drive. this is a small drive which connects to your computer and allows you to free up space. I suggest getting a large one if you have a lot of such files. They start as low as $20 and go up from there depending on how much storage space.

5. Stevem Gould has created a free program called "Clean Up" which will delete all kinds of unnecessary files that your regular delete will not capture. Here is his website. It is free but he takes donations. I have used it with Windows XP for several years with no problem. If you run Vista, better read about that carefully.  Here is the link: http://www.stevengould.org

6. If you are still having problems make sure you have called your provided. take your modem and unplug it for 10 minutes and plug it back in.

7. Consider going with high speed cable internet which usually is faster.

You can tune you PC and also your DSL modem.  If you have Win XP follow the guide on TuneXP.com in the first link below.  To tune your modem then go to DSLReports.com, on the second link, and go to the "Tools" tab and the "Forums" to check the speed of your internet connection and for many tools and help in tweaking it.  It takes a bit of time, but well worth it.  I cannot go through all of the details in one short message.  Good luck!

For running slow there are many causes:

Microsoft Registry Problems = Slow Computer!

Spyware/Adware

RAM

De-Fragmenting

Etc.

Below can help you speed up your pc:

For  IE, click Tools, Internet Options  delete files (offline files) clear history (set days to save to 0 if you want) click o.k., and Restart

For Firfox, press ctrl+shift+del, and click clean private data.

Manage your startup:

Open your Start menu  ->  Click Run ->  In the command screen type "msconfig.exe" ->  In the "system configuration utility", click either "service" or "startup" tab ->  Uncheck all programs that your are no longer using.

De-Fragmenting

1. Right click of C Disk.

2. Click properties.

3. Click tools tab.

4. Click "Defragment now".

5. Click Defragment.

You can search which process full use you cpu, and end the process.

Under steps:

1. right click on the TaskBar.

2. click the Task Manager.

3. click the processes tab.

4. double click the CPU.

5. find if the "System Idle Process" is max.

6. if not right click and click end process.
