I have a ball python, and have had him for about four years, he is about three feet long. he is a male, so i can expect that he wont get as big as the females. but what can i do (besides feeding him a lot) to make him bigger?

  1. look at him with a magnifying glass

  2. if he is over 4 years old then he is done growing, I'm sorry to say.  he is tiny for a ball python. snakes stop growing around 5 years old, so he might get slightly bigger but not much.  maybe a few inches.  you can feed him bigger means, but then again it may not affect him if he is done growing.  my friend has a girl ball python and she is almost 5 1/2 feet. she's big and she's only 3 years old, so she will get a bit bigger.

    good luck

  3. not sure where rebecca l saw an 8' ball python...that's some snake.  and snakes do not grow to the size of their tank.  who started that story?

like the others said he is pretty much full grown now.  you don't want to feed him too much because he won't grow any longer he will just become obese and it would be bad for his health.

  4. Steroids and cheeseburgers.

(He's about full-grown, he'll never get bigger. Fatter, maybe.)

EDIT: Everything Rebecca L said below is amazingly stupid and they should feel bad for saying it.

  5. At this point you won't, feeding him more will only make him fatter.  Thats actually a rather normal size for a male, they get MUCH smaller than the females.  And they will not "grow to the size of their tank".  The girl BPs get about 5', the boys 3'-4'.

  6. Ask yourself how big his current tank is. Does he have ample room to move around and be himself or does he seem cramped? Many species of snake will not grow larger than the environment in which they are kept will allow. If you are keeping a three foot snake in a fifteen gallon tank you need to upsize. Ball pythons max out at eight feet and grow about one foot per year if cared for properly. Your average eight footer needs between 40 to 45 gallons for proper housing and care. Your snake should be able to have several variations in temperature in order to properly regulate his temperature. One large rat a week should be sufficient for your three foot snake and feeding every other week would be closer to ideal.
