I don't want to buy anything but I use to have a fast computer and I started to let my little brother use it and it got slowed down. I uninstall things but it still isn't as fast. And if anybody knows how to add ram can they tell me because I sort of want to know how. Thanks :)

Operating System: Windows Vista 64-bit Premium

Processor: Intel (R) Premium (R) Dual CPU E210 2.00Ghz 2.00Ghhz

Ram: 4 GB

  1. http://ccleaner.com

should help a bit (free too =)

  2. I used to have the same problem with my computer there is obviously to many programs on your hardrive just try deleting stuff then see if its fast again

  3. don't add ram, that would be more than overkill. do what alkaline said, try cleaning out your case. Believe it or not, dust can cause components to overheat. last, try reinstalling your os.

  4. Delete files you don't need, clear your web browser's history, try using disk cleanup and disk defragmenter.

  5. Hi,

Do the things above, but also try doing this...

Press the Windows Button + R   - then type: MSCONFIG

It'll take you to a Window, and click Startup Items, and uncheck things you think you don't need... Things like Quicktime, MS Office, RealPlayer ETC.

    NOT Anti-Virus stuff....

    Do the same in Services.

This will / should make your Bootup faster, and in theory make your computer a little faster!

Also, if you use Norton Anti-Virus, don't! Uninstall it, and download AVG it's free, faster and.. Well better. Believe me.

Also, speaking from experience, maybe create another account for your Brother... As well, games and stuff, and maybe p**n? If he\s old enough! Never stopped me.. but still... - Creating another acount, and blocking some sites wont hurt, and could save you from Spam etc, thus in theory speeding up your Computer.

:) - And for when you do spend money, don't get a PC, get an Apple Mac. :) -

It runs XP and Windows Vista 3X faster than most PC's...

  6. What Alkaline provided. =)

  7. Your computer should be fast based on the hardware. You have plenty of RAM already. More won't hurt, but if your computer was fast before and isn't now, RAM won't help you.

Your hard dive might be fragmented or you might have a virus.

To start, I would run the Windows disk cleanup, check disk and defrag then run a virus scan and spyware scan.

Run MSCONFIG to see what's running on startup. If you see something you don't recognize. Google it. Chances are someone else already asked about it and you might be able to find out if you need to worry about it.

I've never used that ccleaner thing the others recommended. But apparently a lot of people do.

I typically use the stuff built into Windows. But I don't have a little brother going and messing with stuff. Who knows where he went. I'm VERY careful about how I answer dialog boxes and warnings.

    Good luck.

  9. Using a registry cleaner can clean up your computer and then make your computer faster,Why?the reason is that there may be some registry errors and remnant, corrupt files and temp files in your computer to cause "computer slow".

Every time you install and uninstall software on your computer and surfing online you create junk in the computer registry.over time, the registry can grow to enormous proportions, especially if the various programs you've installed do not do a good job of deleting and/or updating it's Registry entries. You need to scan and clean your computer with registry cleaner to make it fast.Good Registry Cleaner will improve your computer and Internet performance dramatically!
