  1. Delete cookies, go through local disk and get rid of old folders, get mcafee

  2. Generally speaking, the data on your hard drive (pictures, music, docs, history, etc) does not affect the speed of the computer, unless it's causing you to have less than 2 GB of free space left on the C: drive.

You can check for installed programs that are eating a lot of resources. If you hit ctrl-alt-delete, then Task Manager, you can a look at a list of what is eating the most memory and decide if it's something you are actually using or not.

To delete viruses you can run a scan, wait for it to finish, and when it shows a list of results say "remove all"

The most cost effective and easiest to install hardware upgrade is RAM - you can get it at a cost of about $20 per gig.

Do not UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES let Geek Squad look at it, they'll probably just make it worse.

  3. defragment your  computer. I love

  4. Get System Mechanic. It's like a control panel for sweeping up your computer. It scans your computer, tells you what's wrong with it to the last byte, and lets you take action. it also has a meter to tell how good your computer performance is and how strong your security is. didn't cost me much either

you can also get Norton AntiVirus. This, IMO, is pretty much the best Virus protection you can get. Lots of Virus Definition updates, gets rid of Spyware and Keyloggers too.

You say you've deleted old pictures, videos, and emptied your Recycling Bin.

Sadly to say, this does not work. No matter how many times you delete, remove, hide, whatever, it's still on your computer. No matter what. Period. You could try using the incenerator that comes with System Mechanic. Works pretty good to free some space.

You should also delete some programs on your computer that you don't use. This is where the gold mine is to getting rid of all that junk you don't need.

Good thing is you dont have to be a computer gurru to use these. Very simple walkthrough and affective.

    Good luck =]

  5. You can go to control panel > Add or remove programs and remove any unwanted programs. Also you can get rid of the cookies and temp files to make the PC run faster. Go to C drive > documents and settings > folder with your name on it > then look for Cookies folder and delete everything except the index.dat file. Then go to the Local Settings folder and click on temporary internet files and delete everything from this folder. Then click on Start > Run > type prefetch and delete everything from this folder. Then again go to Run and type %temp% and delete everything from the temp folder. These steps will make the pc run faster and also create space on the HDD. Then check the programs running in the background by going into task manager. Then Go to Run and type msconfig.  Then check the programs running in the background and uncheck those you don't want to run automatically unless specified by you. Do click on the Hide all MS services button in the second last tab before looking at the programs. Also when was the last time you Defragmented the Hard Disc?
