What can I do to make my parents let me take dance lessons?

I've been wanting to take dance lessons (ballet and jazz) for a long time now but my parents won't let me because they're conservative and don't want me dancing w/ guys. Another reason why they won't let me is because most dance classes around where i live are far away. what can i do to convince them that i want to take dance lessons? it's my passion!

replies are greatly appreciated :)

  1. dance around the house hehe, believe it or not it worked for my friends.

  2. show them you are serious. stress to them that you will commit to it and won't drop it as soon as it gets boring and you are willing to do whatever it takes to prove to them that this is something you really want to do

  3. only ask if you can take ballet because ballerinas don't get in to trouble that goes for guy ballet dancers too =^..^=

  4. I'm 15 and have been doing ballet since I was 3, and dance at least 15 hours a week (1 of which is dedicated to jazz).

HERE ARE SOME THINGS TO TELL THEM

    1) ballet dancers have no life. training is intense, so that eliminates drinking parties, school dances, everything your parents most likely disapprove of

    2) ballet is extremely disciplined and takes a lot of work. on top of the 15 hours a week i spend in class, i cross-train on the weekend by doing strengthening excercises, cardio work-outs, weight-lifting and frequent stretching. it requires you watch your weight and keep your body in tip top shape

    3) any contact between boys and girls is entirely appropriate. most of the boys are g*y anyway, and for the most part, they will only hold your waist, hips, or hand (Never your butt or thigh)

to be honest, you may have a tough time convincing them to let you do jazz. depending on the style and teacher, it can be very provocative (there are times when i feel my class is poledancing without a pole, and i go to a very prestigious ballet school)

tell them that you LOVE to dance and this is your passion. don't nag and don't get aggressive. best of luck

  5. Ballet is so disciplined, you won't be getting into any trouble.

It also teaches you grace and confidence.

Let them know that you're serioud an dthis is something that you really want to do.

You and your parents should call a local studio and see if all of you can watch a ballet class.
