What can I do to my room without using any money?

I want to change almost everything about my room, but I'm really broke. Should I try to reorganize it or something? Is there anything I can do to change it using things I already own, without buying anything new? ;)

  1. Well first, clean everything out. All the old clothes, furniture, accessories that are worn out, grown out, or you just don't like anymore. Look around the house. The basment/attic. I bet there is paint you have used before, old furniture, lots of stuff. Even white paint on the oldest piece can make it like new. You can repaint all the furniture, or if you find a great color, the walls. Ask your friends and family if they have any old paint or furniture. I bet they would give it to you for free. All you have to do is refurbish it. Sanding down and painting or staining is a great way to make things look new, and even look like a whole furniture set.

    Hope I helped!!

  2. You can change your room for free. One of the biggest changes comes with moving your furniture in your room. Move your bed to the opposite side of the room. Add other sheets that you already own  along with a new quilt and maybe top it off with pillows from the couch.

Art in your room can changed. If you have family photos on your walls , try putting new pictures of the same size in them.

Another tip, try grouping the photos in different patters like in a upside down "V" or stair step them it makes for a great focal point.

Here is a great art piece for you to try. A Family Tree. Go outside and remove a small branch  that is  unique from a tree . It doesnt have to be a large branch. Remove the leaves from the  stems. Now you will need cardboard, constuction paper, glue and family photos or at least copies of them, and ribbon.  Copies work better so you can glue them to the Card board.

Cut different shapes like circles, squares, triangles ect. Cut matching shapes out of the cardboard this will be back of your picture frame. Using your pictures , you will need to cut a window in the construction paper so that your picture will show through. Now Glue your picture to the Card board and then the matching Window piece of paper to that. Attach the ribbon thru a hole at the top of your newly picture frame.

By tieing the ribbon to the stems of the branch, you can actually hang the pictures of your family to create a family tree.

Hang the Family tree Branch , on a main wall so that you will always remember your family.

Adding candles will brighten up your room also. Have Fun !!!

  3. Re arrange the furniture. Thats what I do. I also put collages all over my room. I have a full wall of tiles pages of Teen Vogue and it looks really cool. Paint is also really inexpensive and you might already have some at your house that you dont know about, ask your parents. try changing your bedding. just a little change can make a big difference.

  4. You probably have yahoo freecycles in your area. Sign up and check it out.

It is all free things ppl' are giving away.

  5. You can always clean it out. Get out some old stuff that doesn't serve any purpose or doesn't go along with your theme.  Also, if you like the color on your walls, then you can take some old posters and papers down to make your room's color come out more.

If your an artist, sketch out or paint something like beaches on a canvas, piece of paper or posterboard. But, you'll have to pay for the art supplies.  Then, you can hang them above your bed or on your walls.  Or, if you go to art classes, hang up some of that work too.

You can always hang up clippings from magazines all over your walls. Outfits you like, famous people.  It will add some spice to your room.  Also, you can add sparkles and glitter to your furniture, if your that type of person. =]

What I did when I was already done redecorating my room is got some old stuff from my friends that they didnt want anymore.  After my friend had finished redecorating her room, she had alot of cool stuff left over from her old room.  I got these orange and pink beads that had hung from her door and broke and she let me have them. I hung them over my bed and it looked really great! If any good friends or neighbors are getting rid of old stuff, and you like it, ask them if they wouldn't mind giving it to you for your room. But don't be rude about it.

Well, hope I helped. And good luck!

  6. Change your wall pictures with the seasons and holidays.  You'd be so surprised how this makes a difference.  You can find nice pictures in magazines, or buy inexpensive posters from hobby shops and probably places such as WalMart.

Three or four times per year, move your furniture around.

Change your bed spread/bed covering with the seasons and holidays.  For example...I have a snowman comforter for the winter months.

Make things out of anything you can find.  You only need to display a month or so than make something else.

  7. try moving furniture around. without money it will be really hard to remodel a room.

  8. Take out everything you don't like. If you have too many color schemes, choose one or two colors already present in the room and remove any decorations that clash with those. Paint is a pretty inexpensive way to change the feel of a room (about $20 a gallon) and if you're doing the painting yourself all you need is paint, a roller, and the time. Or you can paint the furniture if you don't want to paint the room. Do you have any different bed covers/pillows/decorations in storage? If you do, you might see if there's anything you'd consider using now. Throw pillows are a good way to add color without much expense, and you can just buy the covers if you already have pillows. If you really can't afford even little stuff, then I would just go for a minimalist approach and keep only the things you really love and use daily in the space. Move them around to find the best places for the furniture and items that are there, and keep everything organized and uncluttered. That will give it an airy, light, relaxing feel. Best of luck!

  9. Living on a fixed income,   Your question is right up my alley,so to speak.   Try changing a few things around= one room to another.   See if rearranging pictures and or flowers help.  I was amazed at how my dining room looks just by moving pictures around. Different picture frames = Some times I find "gems" at second hand stores, fleamarkets, rummage sales, etc.  I take a limited amount $5.00 - 10.00 and shop smart.   ,  Also make measurements before moving some furniture around.  Most of all, have fun.   Boots

  10. If you have any magazines, make up one large wall full of cutouts. You can do that with pictures of family and friends too. Try seeing if any of your friends have an extra comforter you can have.  Before you do that, give away, throw away, or sell all the stuff in your room you dont really need. That improves the space so you dont have to spend on storage.

Make your own pillows, that would be fun too.

    Hope i helped!
