Question:

What can I do to prepare for AP Chemistry?

I am taking AP Chem this fall of my junior year, and I wanted to know what can I do over summer that will prepare me even better for it? (That way, I don't have to stress out so much when it comes along).

Like what are some of the hardest units for those who have already taken the class, any tips?

  1. for me, chemical kinetics was really hard. but that was at the end of the year when i didnt really care lol.

most of the concepts are pretty easy to grasp.. uhm... to prepare, just review stochiometry.. and memorize solubility rules and know theperiodic table well. know the atomic symbols and the names. like nomenclature.

most of the math was algebra... some alg2 like logs...

other than that, there isnt much you can do unless you plan on starting the chapters now. the class moves fast and you have to just go along. but honestly. it was one of the more chiller classes i had. i hope this helped, goodluck.

  2. i would really review over stuff like

solubility because on the ap test you might have to worry over it

actually try to remember the stats for the elements because

when you're taking the ap test it's all about speed and precision

go over stuff from your normal  chem class because it'll serve as the foundation for ap chem, like stoichiometry and any rules and laws

if you have taken precalc or calc go over stuff, because later on during reactions and stuff you'll have to be familiar with equations (ap chem requires more math than normal chem) and i heard precalc/calc helps, you might be able to pull if off if you've had at least alg 2

for me nearly everything we learned was difficult, and i don't mean to discourage you. just make sure you take good notes if you get confused GET HELP! seriously you do not want to fall behind because depending on your teacher they might go quickly in order to teach you as much as they can in order to prepare you for the ap test, becuase the teachers never know what's going to be on there.

and a big big help would be to be familiar with the different names of the elements, compounds, ionization numbers (at least know the trends)

  3. I took AP chem my junior year...and as long as you were good in chem 1 and 2 and have good math skills then you will be fine. Just review things like people have said...mainly stoichiometry, dimensional analysis, know symbols for your elements and ionic compounds, and the charges that the elements assume. mainly the alkaline and alkaline earth metals, halogens, and noble gases.
