  1. You can talk about it daily with them to get them prepared for not being with you and allow them to ask questions. I would try to get them in the routine such as getting them out of bed when they would be going, having them sit and color for a set amount of time etc., work on following directions, if not potty trained then work on that.  Socializing with other kids is a big help also. Read books to the child about school and the first day of school. Having been a preschool teacher for years those things listed above are key for the child and the teacher.

  2. Teach him how to pack some heat!

  3. along with the first responds, also teach he or she there birthday and phone numbers, colors just try to go over with her little by little.

  4. TEACH HIM HOW TO TIE HIS SHOES,  KNOW HIS AGE, NAME, NATIONALITY, COLOR, WRITE,

  5. Try going to a few activities which mimic the preschool setting: storytime at the library, playgroup, kiddie gym, even birthday parties. Anything social. Save the academics for the preschool teachers to deal with. That's what they're for. Do read a lot to your child, though. That helps with attention span, language skills, confidence, and most importantly, bonding with you! The more loved they feel at home, the better they will do out in the "real world" of preschool.

  6. Work with them on their social skills teach them about sharing and caring. As well as nice touch and using their words. Make sure they can drink from a cup most schools do not allow sippy cups or bottles. Remind them that you will be back at the end of the day to pick them up and that they will make lots of friends and do fun art projects. When you drop them off leave quickly do not stick around because they are crying their teachers will comfort them when you are gone. This makes the separation much easier on them.

  7. Really thats the only thing..its good forthem to know the alphabet and at least count to 20 or so.. Also make sure they know how to share (which might be a prob if theyre an only child..my nephew is going into preschool..LOL)

Just support creativeness, drawing, hygiene (hand washing etc) and eating healthy snacks..because thats all they do in preschool..LOL..good luck

  8. A lot of problems that occur in preschool are that of socialization. Let him/her get used to playing with other kids in the same age group and see what happens.

  9. Don't worry too much about the academic stuff.  More than that, your 3 yo should be exposed to other children and various situations where he/she has to consider others and wait for a turn.  Also it would be good to practice longer term attention-type activities.  Read books together, do some craft activities together.  And remember to continue all of these things even after school gets going.  The more social situations a child is exposed to the better they will function in the classroom environment.  School is very social and demands participation.

  10. lol my parents were just glad to have me out of the house for a few hours...there was no preparing and i turned out just fine so i wudnt worry...its preschool.

  11. abcs and 123s

  12. I teach preschool to 3 year olds...we spend some time on academics, but really at this age it is all about socialization and getting along with one another.  Following basic directions, cleaning up after themselves, using table manners during snack time, sharing and caring for each other. Also learning to use words to communicate instead of grunts, squeaks, cries etc.  Other things we work on is sitting in circle, taking turns speaking and listening.  Children are also expected to participate in crafts, music, playground fun and chapel.  So you can help your child by telling her that there will be a lot of activities and fun things to do in preschool...one thing, at our school kids have to be potty trained...no pull ups, diapers or anything like that are allowed...so make sure your child is comfortable using the potty somewhere other than home...every year we get a few kids who are afraid of the potty at school.

All and all, three year old preschool should be fun and should prepare your child for the 4 year old class or pre-k

    Good luck!

  13. I am a preK teacher asst. and learning the sounding of the letter helps them more focused on the letter then what is looks like we learned a PreK a letter sounding song it helped them tremediously! try the sound the letters make first

  14. Well of course he needs to know his ABC's and his 123's but he or she will also need to know manners and he needs to get used to no having his parents there with him or her and just talk to him or her and explain it that's all. GOOD LUCK.

  15. well i have a 4 year old and im teaching her colors, i have books that will teach to identify colors by looking at the same color pictures and it works well go to walmart or try target you will find a variaty of books to help your kid to learn colors, shapes and many other simple things, hope this help

  16. Colors, shapes, walking on a 'balance beam' or a line drawn on the ground, hopping on one foot, skipping, catching a ball with both hands, and bouncing a ball with one hand.

These are things we had to teach our pre-K kids before they could enter Kindergarten. I know...it sounds a little funny but it's true. Now, he's only 3 so don't expect him to be able to do all of these things right now. These are just skills he'll be trying to develop...that you can help him with.

You could also work on some social skills. "If someone hits you or takes your toy, what should you do?"  or "If you need to go potty, what should you do?".

  17. Sight words.  Flash cards with three letter words of things the really like (stick with nouns).

Small addition, math circus DVD was a great help.

    Letter and number tracing.

    Color names.

We even did months of the year, just the names not the concept of lunar calendar.

    Drawing.

Calculus - sorry I just had to be a wise cracker
