Question:

What can I do to prepare myself for college?

So, I am going into my senior year of high school and before I never cared about attending a big university or anything, just going to a community college and seeing where life takes me. But now I'm terrified. I recently attended a program for high schoolers that made my dream to attend this school, in a program that only accepts 20 people a year, no less.

In this program, they said that your GPA get's looked at, but because it is a theatre major they look much more at you ACT/SAT score and your audition.

But still, I have a GPA of 1.4 and I REALLY need to raise it desperately. Any advice as to what I can do to bring it up within one semester? Online classes? Anything?

  1. No matter how good your SAT scores and audition are, you need at least a 2.0 GPA to do much of anything competitively.  Make sure you are taking classes that you can make an A in, because you'll need a bunch of A's to get that GPA up as quickly as you need.

  2. Were you involved in a natural disaster?

Because that is the only way you could possibly explain that dismal GPA.  Well, at this point, you must get all A's. Not a nary B. You need a min of a 2.0 just to be considered.

Wow, talk about a wake up call, you just got one!

  3. doing extremely well in all your classes, obviously.

any extra credit you can get!

if if you can't get it up this year, you could always do classes online or at a community college and raise your gpa, and then re-apply to your college of choice next year.

  4. ask your teachers if you can do extra assignments to raise your GPA

even if they can't/won't let you do things to raise your GPA extra assignments would help you learn to study better

talk to a school counselor to see if they have any study tips for you

the desire is the first step, just keep plugging away at it, and read a lot

    Good Luck
