Question:

What can I do to prevent height loss?

I'm a female, almost 18, and 5'6. I read that mostly females can shrink in height from 1-3inches, this really freaked me out. I'm already very insecure about my height (need to wear very high heels everyday) and if I shrink even .5inch I would be very depressed. It worries me because my sink in my apartment is VERY low and sometimes I unintentionally hunch a little to wash my face. But everywhere else I stand very straight with good posture and I make sure to take a multi-vitamin everyday so I'm not deficient in anything. Will this prevent me from shrinking in anyway and if not, what else can I do?

  1. Height shrinkage only occurs in your old age and is part of the aging process.  Women shrink more than men in their old age.  Perhaps in about 65 years time you might notice a bit of height shrinkage.

Height loss is possible due to medical problems such as scoliosis (curvature of the spine).

  2. Just get plenty of sleep and eat healthy.

Don't be silly about your height. Only unhealthy people will "shrink."
