Question:

What can I do to reduce lag on my wireless router?

I just bought a Linksys Wireless-N Dual Range Router model WRT610N. I had to call tech support to help me set it up. After I got done, I tried to play online games. I get lag spikes up to 4000 ping.

I don't have any interfereance that I know of. There aren't any cordless phones, and the distance from the router to the computer I am using is approximately 15 ft.

Can I reduce the lag, and if so how exactly do I go about doing it. I already disconnected all of the wires without resetting the router, and restarted my computers. It got a tiny bit better, but not much.

Also should I operate on the 2.4 ghz or 5 ghz?

  1. Try the 5Ghz setting.  That may help you overcome any potential 2.4Ghz signals in your home.  Check out the document at the link below to troubleshoot the lag time issue.
