What can I do to reduce my gas bill?

I was spending about $120 a month on gas and now with the every growing price of gas I spend about $250.00. I am not driving any more than usual. I really want to know what I can do to drop my gas bill, I am starting to worry. I looked into public transportation. But I live in Addison Tx and work in Garland Tx, It would be an hour transit time. Theres no way I could take and hour to get from home to work. Right now its only 15-20mins. What other options do I have?

  1. watch how your drive (e.g., no "rabbit starts" & hard braking)

That's one thing that is so frustrating. These twits don't understand that we have to drive. Many people can't use public transportation - I CAN'T!

They also tell us to conserve and when we do (reducing the amount of taxes they get) they scream for more tax money.

  2. maybe carpool...

check out craigslist see if anyone in your area is interested...

and drive slower.. and less punching the gas and a more gradual slow down instead of slamming on the brakes.

  3. As much of an inconvenience as it would be, moving close to work would be a good solution. It doesn't look like fuel prices are going to be dropping any time soon, so it is an investment in the future.

  4. The could be a few easy things to do to the car to help the miles per gallon. Proper air pressure is a good one along with clean filters ( air and fuel) and trip planning is also a good suggestion. keep the ca tuned up and oil changed. replace the  P.C.V in the tune up. Good luck that is somthing I don't miss.

  5. Well there is no way to reduce it but there is ways to get more for ur money

    1. Let the nozzle let the gas out slowly the bubbles take up space

  6. ride a bike, and if you have kids tell them to ride bikes if they're old enough. cut down on using the car every time you can if it's possible. it's what everyone has to so don't worry about being the only one. also, my mom pumps the gas slower because you supposedly get more? i really don't know, but i guess you could try that. and public transportation. it's totally worth it and it will cut down on your money from gas spending, even if it is an hour long ride

    hope this helped :]

  7. go hippie, ride a bike

  8. Buy a car that runs on natural gas (methane). It's cheaper than gasoline and cleaner for the environment. I have 2 of them and they're great! Check my source to see if you have a station along your route so you can fill up. Good luck!

  9. I think this you are a good candidate for Moped use.

You were at $120/m gas, now $250/month.

you can get a nice little 49cc for not much, but you might need one a little faster  for your roads, like a 150cc.

These little guys are a lot of fun and can get over 60 mile per gallon.  And wont take but  a few extra minutes.

Can still take the car on the odd days when the weather is bad.

  10. Make sure your tires are properly inflated. Don't make short trips (i.e. driving to the grocery store, driving home, and then going out again). I used to live in the DFW area. Is there any way you could drive to a DART station, park your car there, and hop on the train to work? You might want to look into Park-and-Ride. A DART area map says there's one in Farmers Branch.

  11. Don't run the a/c unless it's absolutely necessary, never drive faster than 55 mph (this will help more than anything), find the flattest route that requires the least amount of stopping and starting.

  12. Smaller vehicle.  You might be able to ride a motorcycle for most of the year in that part of Texas.

    75 to 100 MPG beats 15...!
