Hi. My health insurance company is SRC-Atena. I highly recommend never signing up with them, even if it's offered by your employer. Here's my case. SRC has sent numerous letters reading my wife's medical expenses are "ineligible" to be covered because they haven't received "requested information." The requested information they are talking about is a pre-exiting condition questionaire form. I have sent them that form by mail by certified mail and with a return receipt. I got the return receipt, so they have it. I called them and they said they have it too. But it took them about 5 months to acknowlege that they have it. Now, they are saying my wife's claims are in process and is still pending. This has been going for about 5 months. Bill collectors are calling me and sending leters to pay for my wife's medical bills. I believe SRC is using delay tactics hoping I will just give up and pay for my wife's medical bills. What can I do to make SRC pay for my wife's medical bills? Thank you

  1. Tell the bill collectors to deal with the insurance company first.  I never pay a bill until it's gone through insurance.

  2. Well, ultimately, you are responsible for paying the provider, and then SRC would have to pay you back.

It seems that the real issue is the delays.  If I were you, I'd be writing up a complaint letter, copying the return receipt, sending the whole shebang to my state insurance commissioner as a complaint.  They'll get a response within 30 days for you.

  3. If you have all the documentation as to when you have submitted this information, I would contact your local states insurance commisioners office.  Google them.  File a complaint.  No insurance company wants the commisioner coming down on them and will usually get off there hands and find a solution quicker.  I hope this helps.  I have seen this happen several times.  If this is through your employer make certain they are aware of you situation, and maybe they can help you secure a different company in the future.  Good Luck

  4. File your complaint with http://www.RipOffReport.com

  5. File a complaint with the state department of insurance

Sue (or file for binding arbitration)
