I'm good with the loud, supportiveness. I love that aspect of the game. What I need work on is what excersizes I can do to help increase my vertical jump, speed, and agility (I play defense/backrow or setter which can mean alot of switching and running into other people). Also something that can do that while improving hand eye coordination would be nice. I can always use some more of that for serving.

I'm only 5'3''... so blocking especially is an issue. I want to improve faster than the rest of the team and get more inshape to set myself apart. What can I do?

  1. blocking- should not be an issue,

if you're playing right front (since you're setter) when you are in the front row your main job blocking wise is to set the block up. you want to split the hitter's shoulder so your middle blocker knows where to set up her block. Bonus---if the MB makes a block, you get credit for a block assist.

Also, I know someone who is 5'1,maybbbe 5'2 and she can get her hands over the net to block. That means it can be done.

  2. Ok, well do drills EVERYDAY! you can get chalk and there are tons of things to do wall sits (paiinful but effective) or draw a latter and do paterns(in out in out with your feet) it increases ajility (spelling) or draw dot zigzaging race to and from the dots oh and remeber always strech!

    Good luck!

  3. Ok so I know some stuff I have done since like 7th grade to work out.  I will be entering my sophmore year and I turn 15 on Sept. 1st.  I started right side/setter on varsity this year for a 4A school, I'm about 5'7" and I have a 27 inch vertical.  Some things I did to improve my vertical was I would go down to the track and do 100M sprints full out, so I would sprint one, have one minute of rest and do another, I repeated about 20 times.  Then I also for my vertical squated (no weights or weights).  Another thing to also improve your vertical is to walk on your tip toes whenever you can.  This builds up your calf muscles.  For speed do squats and the 100M dashes.  And for quickness use a speed ladder and do workouts with that.  For hand-eye coordination, grab a bouncy ball and go outside and bounce it all over the place and catch it, it works great for hand-eye coordination.  Good luck this season, and try some of that stuff out, it really works.

  4. well i went to a volleyball camp at the college in my city and they told me to increase my vertical do 10, then 10 lunges on each leg then run 100 M it will really help and it does'nt get you too tired

if you repeat that a few times you will have results in a few days !!!! trust me im only 5'6" and im a middle blocker which is the position where you have to jump the highest and i can actually get my hands over the net!!!!

when you block be sure to pull your stomach in, in a sharp motion and have nice stiff hands pointed down to send the ball flying down ward!!! also be sure not to jump into the net practice jumping rope in one place to keep you from jumping outward!

good luck and i hope i help
