What can I do to stop guys from <span title="honking/catcalling/hitting">honking/catcalling/hittin...</span> on me?

Question

I dress modestly most of the time and I try not to look provocative but I get catcalled and honked at so much. I'm not bragging. It seriously annoys me and makes me feel dirty and creeped out. I hate what men yell at me. So,

1. Is there anything do that can prevent it or lessen it?

2.When it happens, what should I do or say? Is there anything I can do to make sure they don't do it again?

I try to avoid making eye contact with them and I don&#039;t respond in any way.  I think looking at them encourages their behavior.  

I don&#039;t think there&#039;s really anything you can do to make it stop if  it&#039;s always different men.  If you always pass by the same group, then you might be able to ask them to stop.  

Another option is to try wearing a hat and sunglasses when you&#039;re out walking.
