Question:

What can I do when my wireless connection says limited or no connectivity?

I just bought a used laptop (Acer tablet laptop c100) that worked earlier at a public location but when I brought it home and tried to access my own wireless router it looks like it has a full connection but then it says limited or no connectivity.

Now I have tried run "ipconfig/release" and "ipconfig/renew" but it says that it timed out and can't renew.

I have unplugged the router and plugged it back in, still doesn't work. But all the other computers on the network work.

I have tried the troubleshoot and it says my wifi card is working.

I have run out of ideas and things to try. If anyone out there has any advice for me, that would be great. I will be eternally grateful.

Thank you!

  1. Also check your TCP/IP settings on your laptop and make sure you are allowing DHCP and let the IP by dynamically assigned by your router.  Also check to see if you have mac filtering enabled and that you are not blocking out your laptop in your router settings.  Most important, make sure your laptop wifi is enabled.

  2. Sounds like the laptop has located the network but cannot Decrypt the data.

Have you made sure that the routers security settings match your laptops?

    WEP / WPA etc

You need to make sure the WEP or WPA keys match

  3. i agree with the one above me.  a way to test it is to plug your laptop in with an Ethernett cord, and make sure that it works that way.

  4. It might depend on your location in your house. I know that some router's signals may get hindered by obstacles like walls.
