Question:

What can I do with SNAPPED PEGS lodged in my IKEA flatpack bookcase!?

Hey there,

I'm in the middle of assembling an EXPEDIT bookcase from ikea and unfortunately one of the shelves snapped off because I let the whole thing rest on it (silly idea, I know)! At the moment one of the shelves (the last one actually) has pegs lodged in each of the 4 holes, the other end of each peg is lodged in the 4 holes in the assembled part BUT they are both snapped flush with the edge.. Does this make sense? The pegs are snapped so there is no peg sticking out but 8 plugged up holes!!! Any help would be great!

Can I hammer another peg into the hole and push the pegs further in? Do those holes run all the way up the inside of the shelf?

  1. a small bit on the drill would get them out if used carefully then just cut a spare bit of would to shape and make more pegs.

Alternatively, you could try your idea and if it didnt work you could still drill out.

  2. You need to drill them out - pushing more in stands a chance of pushing them up or down through the actual shelf.  Set your drill to a point which measures the length of the snapped off bit.

  3. i doubt the holes run too deep, i would try to s***w a s***w or hammer a nail partially into the snapped peg and then pull it out with some pliers.

  4. Drill a small hole in the middle of the peg.  s***w in a s***w and pull the peg out.

  5. As "old know all" said, quick and easy way to do it.
