I was just accepted to UCSD as a molecular bio major. After college, I want to be a criminalist or maybe work for the FBI, but if that doesn't work out what are my other options?

  1. With a BS in biology, I became a computer game programmer.

  2. You could work for an environmental lab or pharmaceutical company. Those would be the largest employers in the region that are closely related to your major.  Perhaps you could work for a forensic lab for the sheriff's department or something like that and get better prepared for the FBI.

  3. An entry level position for someone with a BS in MolBio would be along the lines of Research Assistant or Research Associate.

There are jobs like this in Industry and Academia.  You might even be able to find part time or summer employment at the school you're planning to attend.  Another possibility is to get to know a professor and work for them for credit.

If you want to see what kind of jobs there are at a specific place of employment (like the FBI) go to their website and check their careers/employment/jobs sections.  Read the descriptions.  For a broader view of molbio opportunities, go to BioSpace.com and search positions.  You can even search these by your location.
