Hi, I have a Master's in Criminal Justice and live in NYC. I specialized in Criminology & Deviance, Law & Procedure, and Investigative Techniques. I took the degree because it was offered to me in a BA/MA program. However, now that I have the degree, I don't know where to take it. Would anyone know what fields/careers would fit my degree? Oh and I don't want to be a lawyer (at least for now - costs too much)

  1. Crime Analyst! (Quite csi-y. Although it's probably really different.) Maybe work for the government on some sort of researcher post? Further studies to become a lawyer? As you don't need a law degree and can do it the non law degree way and your other degrees would be of interest to companys that might want to employ you. You could also join the police, if it's something that interests you. You should go to some job centre/careers place where they can help you make a decision.

  2. You can do a lot. I'm thinking about going for my MA in CJ and the options I've found are good. You can go into research and analysis, casework specialist for the Dept of Corrections, parole agent, teach at a community college, just to name a few. Check out the International Crime Analysts Association and State jobs. Good luck!
