It's between this or a ba in communication with a Concentration in social interaction and a minor in sociology. what would provide more job availability/flexibility? Money is not an issue. I am more concerned with fulfillment. What would be best for advocacy/ outreach coordinator? Thanks

  1. A BSW will offer you much more flexibility and job opportunities than a BA in communication. The BSW is a much more practice based degree that gives you tangible skills for immediate employment. It also allows you to apply for advanced standing in most MSW programs - allowing you to do your advanced degree in one year rather than two.

  2. with being in the Mental heath field myself I find you really cannot go wrong in either direction you decide to go.  However the government is spearheading towards putting much more money into the mental heath field and pshyco-social rehabilitation, support workers or anything in that type of field will be in greater demand in the very near future.  Both choices work very well together.  If you are looking for advocacy/outreach or intake coordinator social work is in very high demand.
