What can I do with a barrel full of mulch w/ termites in it?

Question

A friend has a barrel full of mulch that's been sitting around for some time that has been taken over with termites. Can we kill the termites somehow and then use the mulch? Or would whatever we use to kill said termites make the mulch toxic?

fill barrel with water..... termites will drown.... no poisons necessary.... wait a while, couple days.... pour off the water, spread the mulch on a driveway to dry out some.....

I wouldn't risk it. Do you really need the mulch? I would get rid of quick smart and buy some more
