Question:

What can I do with a kids between the ages of four-six years old over the summer?

I've been working with kids for years now. But I just wanted to know of some other ideas or websites; I could use to make a summer exciting for two kids between the ages of four-six. Low budge! I'm familiar with the kids slightly so that's a plus. I just don't want to be in the house for the entire summer and it is summer time so I don’t want to be in the heat all day either. Are any other teachers, nannies, stay at home moms or dads, etc out there with idea? Thanks a mill!

  1. I found a routine was really effective when I was doing childcare.  That way each day you had an idea of what the main thing was going to be

Monday - picnic at a park day; pack a picnic lunch and explore a new plaground.

Tuesday - swimming (find a local pool or lake)

    Wednesday - library

Thursday - field trip (go somewhere that has an educational component to it - even better if you can get a book from the library that relates to where you are going)

Friday - playdate day - they have a playdate with a friend

    etc. etc.

some movie theaters have free movies over the summer

check the local parks and rec - sometimes they have very inexpensive day camps or activities

most communities have some type of local "Kids" or "Families" magazine that will have a lot of ideas.

  2. If you have a michael's store near you, they have kids crafts on Saturdays and also a lot of other craft ideas really cheap.  You can also do a web search for kids crafts and free kids crafts and will come up with some things.  Cover the table with paper and create your own board game.  Play leapfrog outside.  Stretch a king sized sheet over a couple of chairs and make a tent.  Have a water gun fight, that's fun no matter the age.  Wear white t-shirts and put food coloring in your water, so you can see who hit whom and divide up into teams.  Make scrapbooks.  Write poems.  Make cookies.  Plant flowers.  Teach them to do things for other people.

  3. Send them to work at the local coal mine

  4. If their your own head for the ZOO. Check your local Library many have summer programs for little ones; Some have different actives everyday field trips.

  5. dltk-kids.com have good craft ideas.  Get them out into the backyard in the shade and have some fun with craft or water games like a dish of water and paintbrush and let them paint, fences, concrete etc., water bombs are great fun too, a run under the sprinkler is a favourite, (we can't do that now though because of water restrictions), put dolls, boats etc into a kiddie pool or bowl.  Beaware of the dangers of water and children though, DO NOT leave them unsupervised and empty out the water when finished playing.  Find free kids holiday activites/shows at local shopping centres, the library is also a good place and usually has kids story times etc, make cold treats together in the kitchen like ice slushies.

  6. well there are plenty of options for you....take them to a local park, thats always fun, it would be a plus too if that park doubled as a small water area....two fun things in one!!!

if there is a near by beach that could be alot of fun, and have a picnic lunch and bring lots of water and sand toys.

crafts crafts crafts!!!!....and if you dont wanna buy supplies around the house! what do you have that could be used as a craft? :.....toilet paper rolls, paper towel rolls, tooth paste boxes, scratched cds, scraps of fabric, kleenex boxes, tissue paper, construction paper, GLITTER!!!!(kids love it!!) sequins, buttons...anything believe me....and make sure you have lots of glue weather its sticks...but i recommend runny glue too!!!

make playdough with the kids (you can find many recipes on websites!!!) and some call for koolaid so it smells good! yum! (but no eating :P)

make goop with the kids (can be messy to clean up!) but all you need is the right mix of cornstarch and water...(its consistancy should be if you smack it it stays in place, but if you pick it up in your hands it runs through your fingers) you can also add food colouring to that to make it fun!!! (ps make these with the kids they will love it!!!)

have the kids put on a puppet show..(they can make their own puppets with brown paper bags, and markers and anything else they can think of)

    paint a big mural outside

have an ourdoor drawing chalk day

have  a water day outside your house with the hose and some buckets

oh wow what else...ohhh music! if you have the kids alot during the summer have a "freeze dance friday" or a day of the week where at a special time you put on the cds and they can dance. doesnt have to be kids music, as long as it is appropriate of course! its a great way for the kids to let out some energy!! ...you can also incorperate scarves with this and have them do actions like (wave your arms in circles, touch the sky, fly like birds...etc...)

have some kids movies, maybe go pick some with them

have kids books... some excellent ones by: mercer mayer, eric carle, robert munsch..there are so many you can find online!!

i cant think of anything else right now but i really hope this helps and good luck!!

message me if you want anymore ideas or need help!

    have some

  7. Home Depot and Lowes have "Kids clinics" on most Saturday mornings. The best part is they're FREE!

Check to see if your local library has a puppet theater, story time, or age appropriate activities for your kids.

  8. home childcare, daycare center, parks & rec program, babysitter, parent care, etc.......
