I'm sixteen years old, and I know I shouldn't be worrying about it, blah blah blah, but I am. I NEED to know what I want to do with my life. I'm mostly interested in history and English, and international relations is something I've really grown interested in lately because I love learning about different cultures and politics.

What can I do with a degree in international relations, and how do I go about getting one? That is, what do I need to learn? What classes am I required to take?

I have to be careful about the whole 'traveling' thing, because then my mom points out that when I have kids, I can't travel anymore, because I wanted to be a travel agent.

  1. You can be anything from a translator to a diplomat... the opportunities in International Relations are endless really. Most degrees in that field require internships. My cousin did International Relations and is a community developer. She gets to travel and absolutely loves her job.

You'd probably want a degree in political science, and as for the requirements, check out the universities you are interested in online. They should have the requirements for each degree on their websites, or if you email them they will send you loads of information.

    Good Luck!

  2. There are a variety of job options for people who have studied International relations or business. Interpreters are always needed when companies set up shop overseas or come in to the US. Cultural advisors are as important as translators and interpreters. Each county has it's taboos. Some don't like to shake hands, some it's bad to show the soles of your feet whn you sit down.

Consider taking a beginers course in several different languages and study the cultures as well. Many colleges and Universities have International Programs. Ask at you local school if there's a Club for foreign students. I learned a lot by joining the one at my school.

Consider looking into a foreign exchange program. Either host a student or visit another country now as an exchange student.

There are lots of ways to see if you can learn to be diplomatic about strange cultures and foods and manners now!
