What can I do with brussel sprouts to make them more palatable?

Any good vegetarian recipes that include these things? (Based on your own taste and experience.)

  1. Two things to know about "B. Sprouts"; #1. The Smaller they are, the Better they'll taste... & #2. DON'T overcook them (which is only TOO easily done, as they have a delicate flavor- & overcooking them QUICKLY turns them bitter...). The BEST way to prepare them; is melt some butter (or margarine) at moderate heat in a wide saucepan, & then spread your B. Sprouts in a SINGLE LAYER -across the bottom... Stir them gently for 5 minutes till cooked through (sample one to check this out)- & then serve the SECOND they're done... You will be AMAZED at how GOOD they'll taste!  :)


  2. I agree with the previous posters, that overcooking them makes them taste awful. If you still don't like them, you might try tossing them with some crisp bacon crumbles or parmesan cheese.

  3. I'm posting this assuming that fake bacon has a smoky taste.

    Par-boil the brussels sprouts. Saute some fake bacon and garlic in either butter or the much healthier olive oil. Quarter the par-boiled sprouts and add them to the pan and heat through. A crank or 2 on the pepper mill and a pinch of salt and they're good to go.

  4. Brussel sprouts are wonderful, just lightly steamed with butter & salt......It's OVER-COOKING them that makes them so terrible (and they smell horrible too).....Just steam them very al dente, with butter and some sea/kosher salt

  5. Roasted  Brussel Sprouts

    (it's easy and after roasting it the bitter taste should mellow out, if you want to add maybe a teaspoon of rosemary that would add a nice flavor too)

    INGREDIENTS

    1 1/2 pounds Brussels sprouts, ends trimmed and yellow leaves removed

    3 tablespoons olive oil

    1 teaspoon kosher salt

    1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

    DIRECTIONS

    Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (205 degrees C).

    Place trimmed Brussels sprouts, olive oil, kosher salt, and pepper in a large resealable plastic bag. Seal tightly, and shake to coat. Pour onto a baking sheet, and place on center oven rack.

    Roast in the preheated oven for 30 to 45 minutes, shaking pan every 5 to 7 minutes for even browning. Reduce heat when necessary to prevent burning. Brussels sprouts should be darkest brown, almost black, when done. Adjust seasoning with kosher salt, if necessary. Serve immediately.

  6. The more sensitve your taste buds the stronger things like Brussel Sprouts taste. Funny I could eat them when I was younger now I'm not very fond of them.

    I understand fresh ones are much better than frozen ones.

  8. My mother-in-law sprinkles grated nutmeg over her sprouts.An acquired taste,but not unpleasant.

  9. I was going to say beef stew, but then I saw this was the veg. category.  That's the only way I like them.  How about in a vegetable soup?

  10. Take brussel sprouts .

    Throw brussel sprouts into compost bin.

    Replace brussel sprouts with some real food.

    Brussel sprouts are swamp food for swamp creatures.

    PS  Dispose of brussel sprouts with due care outdoors ASAP due to possibility of attracting swamp creatures to interior of home.  Swamp creatures smell like brussel sprouts, and their poo and pee is equally stinky not to mention staining.
