I was able to locate the Philadelphia Chickens book and CD and I really enjoy it, but I was wondering how you use it, or if you use it, in your classroom. Any ideas of how it can be incorporated with other activities, lessons, etc. would be helpful! Thanks.

  1. Love that book and cd! When I was teaching we danced along to it, we always had music going in the background. The kids learned the music after a while and were able to sing along. You could incorporate it and do a unit on Chickens, there is a lot of stuff out there! Do some art projects and hang them around your room, make a Philadelphia Chickens bulletin board and give each child a chicken by taking their photos and gluing it to the chickens.

    Good Luck!

  2. I don't know it and you don't say which age group you teach, but my suggestion is that you teach the songs so that your students can sing-slong with the cd. Also, they could dance to the music. Drama: move like chickens and other animals? If you want to use the lyrics they would form a good basis for literacy lessons. How about lessons in (science) the life cycle of chickens, (humanities), farm life, (geography and mapping) Philadelphia, etc.
