I am double-majoring in Psychology and Anthropology. What are some careers I can do with these two bachelor's degrees?

  1. Without a great deal of graduate work, your chances of working in either of your fields are slim.

But all is not lost!  While a bachelor's degree in liberal arts may not prepare you to work in a specific field like a business or engineering degree will, it does make you eligible to work in an extremely wide variety of fields that need good general skills that you hopefully picked up in college like:

    - Critical thinking

    - Research

    - Writing coherently and persuasively (a much rarer skill than you might imagine, sadly)

    - Ability to follow through and complete a task (i.e. actually graduating)

I've heard that a degree in liberal arts is an investment in yourself, rather than in a particular career path.  You won't make as much money to start with as the person who majored in accounting, but you'll have a great deal more flexibility in charting your career.

Besides, while your career path is an important part of your life, it's not all there is in life--having a well-rounded education hopefully makes you a more interesting and vibrant person to be around.

  2. Go to grad school

  3. I have a degree in anthropology and biology and  I am currently a fisheries biologist.  Psych is pretty competitive I think if you want to work in that field, you most likely will want to go for your masters there.  I have two friends that have psych degrees, neither of them could find work in that field.  They pretty much gave up after a few years, one is writing book and the other sells vacuums.

As for anthropology, if you go to an archaeology field school you can get work in archaeology, but a lot of it will be seasonal field work to start off.  With enough experience, you can find permanent work though.  There are some cultural resource management jobs as well, kind of tough to come by though.  If you are interested in archaeology and not taking summer classes, I would try to get some work in during the summer.  Even if you do not have a field school completed, you can get work with the government, the Forest Service and BLM are good choices.

There are my two cents.  Good luck.

  4. Counseling for one.
