I am a teacher at a daycare center. I love it but I don't think I want to be a teacher in a district. What else can I do to work with children that won't take me 6 more years of school?

  1. You could do in-home day care. You could run a preschool from your home.

Do you have any special interests or skills you could teach to elementary students? Schools are always looking for "in-school field trips", especially for art, science, or music. I've recently started doing science workshops in the classrooms. Planning the workshop myself and putting together kits. The teachers then hire me to come into the classroom. It's great fun!

You might look into something like Head Start or other preschool programs as well.

It's hard to say without knowing your educational background.

  2. depending on your educational background you could be a director, assistant director, area director for centers.  check out the regs for your state at  http://nrckids.org/STATES/states.htm to find out what is required.

you could open your own group home, center or in home facility also.

  3. There is a lot you can do with just a Bachelor's degree. Preschool teacher, early interventionist, ECSE teacher, ABA therapist, play therapist, family childcare provider, etc.

You might also look into nannying...there can be lots of money and benefits in that!

  4. counselor!
