What can I expect to learn from a Tom "Dr. Cue" Rossman exhibition?

I'm sorry to say I'm not too interested in trick shot stuff. What does he do besides that? Anybody seen an exhibition? Can I expect to see what you saw or does he change things up each time?

  1. I sat in on an exhibition he did during the APA National Team Championships last year. It was a free exhibition, so if you're paying to see him or something it may be different. Also, he did something different every day, so yours may be different if it's a one day thing or something.

The exhibition I saw was about 90% instruction. That particular day he talked mostly about focus, but also talked about some other things like form and alignment, but it was mostly a review from what he had talked about another day. It was fairly informative, but mostly geared towards lower level players (like APA sl5s or lower). He's pretty entertaining and a good speaker in general. He surprisingly did very little trick shot stuff, but there was some. He also missed about 90% of the trick shots he tried on the first attempt. He also spent quite a bit of time hawking some aiming gadget. He demonstrated it then spent way too much time letting people try it out.

  2. I'd be very curious to know what you see.  Like Johnny, I've never seen him in person either.  Be sure to let us know if you go see him.  Is this purely an exhibition, or an actual learning seminar with a Q & A portion?  I agree with you in that I'm not overly interested in trick shots, but I also agree with Johnny that it's a completely different skill set and is by no means easy.  From what I can gather, trick shot artists would be very good at performing the rarest shots in pool; jump shots, masse's, multi-cushion banks, etc.  I'll bet a lot of trick shot players probably have a solid pool game, but we just never get to see it.  M.D.-BCA Instructor/Referee.

P.S. I was watching some of Dr. Cue's videos on Youtube and he seems to be a knowledgeable teacher and good speaker.  Lea, don't ever be afraid to hear things that you know already.  Frankly, I love to read books and watch videos that are intended for "beginners".  You can learn something from everybody, even if it's just another way of presenting the same information.  I like to look at the way other teachers present information.

  3. Hey kid

I hope Tim jumps on this one but to me Trick & Artit Pool is almost like Snooker a diffrent game altogeather It not only includes the setup but a pretty high level of skill at the same time .I can do a lot of them but not well enough to bet on.

I have been going for a double jump shot for 15 years and " Maybe " did it 20 times Mike massey thats part of his warm up -Every time - So there is def skill thats why I always question the term trick shot .I dont care for the pop bottles and racks or sticks all over the table but those shots still take skill

As for an answer to your question no i have never seen him live and watch close you can always learn If the one thing you learn wins you a match down the road it was worth it

And hey its pool aint it  Later Kid Johnny

  4. I think it would be worth seeing him perform. you look at some of the English he uses, and you say holy s*cow!.

That is one thing that you can pick up, the fact that there is no limit sometimes to the amount of English you can use, and

how to do it. and actually there are hardly any limits, except the ones we put on ourselves.

I ve been watching some videos on Utube, and you wonder some times!. love that stuff, and yes they will fail at times.
