  1. Birds can eat just about anything a human can eat with the exception of avocados and chocolate.  My birds love mixed veggies, rice and cornbread...they also love Cheerios, lettuce and pelleted food.  I only give seeds as a treat, they are high in fat and really not very good for the bird.

  2. Apart from budgie seed (eg Trill), they like millet spray but don't give it too often, keep it as a treat.

A little bit of fruit and veg is good for them - ours likes lettuce, grapes, apples, bananas, pears, raw broccoli and cabbage. Just offer a little bit, see what reaction you get, but remove it before it goes off.

Our very tame budgie also likes to drink orange juice from our glass (he also likes beer and wine, but that's another story!!). He also likes to sit on the edge of our dinner plate and help himself to rice, pasta, mashed potato and even curry sauce, but you won't find that recommended in books!

Budgies also need cuttle fish bone and/or a mineral block - they provide essential nutrients and help to keep the length of the beak in check. And don't forget to give them clean water every day!

  3. all most any fruit or veg except avocado

  4. bird seed

    and lettuce

    they like that

    and sometimes crisps and stuff

    xx

  5. Cheese Burger and Chips!

Bird seed from pet shop and fresh water.

  6. there is this treat by nutriphase that my keets love! they are like long sticks full of seeds. (not expensive either) when they get a bit older, you can try corn on the cob (raw), tie it to the side of the cage. if you go to your local pet shop there are a lot to choose from. try to get nutriphase items though, they are good quality and the keets love them! hope that helped :)

  7. you can feed them apples, bananas, strawberries, broccoli, celery leaves, carrots, grapes, tangerine sections, spinach, ....you could also feed them wild plants like annual bluegrass, cow vetch, finger grass, english daisy, field pansy, shepherd's purse, dog rose, and hawthorns. Don't feed them lettuce, it has no food value and never feed them ice burg lettuce

  8. go to your local pet shop they will tell you what you want to no

  9. Broccoli, corn (but only 1 inch each bird) mustard greens, chick weed ,grass, dandelion leafs,  grapes, lettuce, or buy some types of milk at the pet store (its not actually milk i forgot what it was)and some

  11. Hello! Enjoy your new pets. Whenever you take in an animal with which you are not familiar (or even if you are) it is an excellent idea to join a forum. This is an extremely good forum for anything relate to your budgerigar:

    And their advice on feeding:

    http://talkbudgies.com/faq.php?faq=healt...

It really is important to feed your pets the best quality of food, and when it comes to handtaming them, fresh foods or millet sprays are indispensible. Best of luck!

  12. This is from Wikipedia:

Although wild Budgerigars eat grass seeds almost exclusively, they feed on both the dry seeds and on unripe green seeds. A diet of only dry seeds is inadequate for optimum health. Most avian veterinarians recommend pet birds' diets be supplemented with foods such as fresh fruits and vegetables, sprouted seeds, pasta, whole grain bread and other healthy human foods, as well as pellets formulated for small parrots. Adding these foods provides additional nutrients and can prevent obesity and lipomas, as can substituting millet, which is relatively low in fat, for higher-fat seed mixes. Budgerigars do not always adapt readily to dietary additions, however. Some birds may be encouraged to try new foods by observing another bird eating the food, or by placing the new food on a mirror. Chocolate, alcohol, rhubarb leaves and avocado are recognized as potential toxins

  13. They like cuttlefish to sharpen their beaks on.

    Always have water available.

You can train them to sit on you finger and they will say simple words like 'Joey' 'Give us a kiss' if you persevere. Mind you I don't know if they will talk if you have two.

  14. A good bird seed which you already have, fresh water, some fresh veg a few times a week (really essential, keep putting it in there till they start eating it- it took mine about 6 months, so don't give up), a piece of cuttlefish, a mineral block, a little bowl of bird grit (they need this for their digestion, you get it form pet shops).....and maybe the occasional treat like a piece of millet seed. That's it.
