G'day, she was given to us at the age of about 7 months because she did not get along with our Mates new baby. She has never liked any type of dog food, but loves boiled, skinless, boneless chicken breast chopped up finely, is there anything we can mix in with the chicken for more nurishment?

  1. slowly start to mix in her food into the chicken. she will get used to the food and soon she will be eating her food =~)

  2. James Wellbeloved is highly reccomended by vets, it is very expensive but is very good for your dog, they are like biscuits and you mix them with other food, or just give it to your dog on its own. My dog is very picky but likes this.

  3. I have the same dog, he also is pickey. I mix his dry (iams puppy food toy & small breed) dog food with the chicken and some broth, warm it up a bit so it is soggy. He trys to only get the chicken out at first but then he will eat the rest. He went to the vet last week and she said that feeding them real cooked food is best for them and to also mix some vegies in there(she also said raw chicken is good).

  4. It is **FINE** to feed your little dog human food - as long as you stick to low/no processed food (ie NO CHOCOLATE or BISCUITS or anything like that). My little dog hates dog foog.. and let's face it, there was no canned dog food around 50 years ago.. so "normal" food is a more natural choice for your dog anyway. (Canned food gives the dog "runs" too!)

Try her on a little steamed or boiled rice with a tiny bit of mashed veges and plenty of finely diced chicken (especially since she likes chicken)... then start experimenting from there - my boy LOVES liver, hearts... actually, any type of offal (well cooked, of course). Another way to tempt fussy little eaters, is to sprinkle a bit of liver treats on their dinner. Regular feed times (morning and evening)... and a perpetual supply of dry food near the dog's water.

If you get really creative, you can cook her meals once a week or so, then freeze little meal size blocks to give her later in the week. It will be better for her and will work out cheaper than dog food.. and she will *enjoy* it so much more!

Don't listen to anyone who tells you to stick to dog food! My boy is almost three.. and a picture of health - he RARELY eats canned dog food (he hates it!!)

  5. FEED YOUR DOG DOG FOOD. and feed her on a schedule, if she doesn't like it for a few days, who cares. she'll eat eventually. try a chicken based dog food, and dry or canned doesn't matter. but you should feed your dog on a schedule, and limit the time it has food available to no more than 20-30 minutes. if your giving her other types of food (such as what your eating) then you're wasting your efforts trying to get your dog to eat dog food. Chihuahuas' generally live for 20+ years. do you want to keep buying boneless skinless chicken breast for the rest of its life? and i take it the girl doesn't like dark meat!

  6. Stop giving her human food! She is not eating it because she knows she can get human food. Shes thinking Why eat this c**p when I can get something better!  If she doesnt eat her dog food without u giving her ANY food within 24 hours then maybe she doesnt like dry dog food? If that is what you were feeding her then try wet dog food. Would you like to eat something that dry all the time for your whole life? I wouldnt!

  7. i only give my dogs table food if its mixed with dog  food. im sure theres a type of food she will eat dogs are very smart and they're not going to starve themselves. i would start by mixing the chicken with dog food and watch and not give more until that food is gone. then little by little i would start giving more dog food until she was eating as her main source of food. eggs, and rice are also good for them you ca mix that in there with the dog food too if you'd like.

  8. Mix in dog food.

You've spoiled her by giving her the chicken.  Mix in dog food - maybe 1/3 dog food, 2/3 chicken.  Do this for a few days, and then switch to 50/50 for a week or so.  After that, go to 3/4 dog food for a week.  Then give her just dog food.  She may not eat it right away, but once she gets hungry enough, she will eat it.  You will have to be strong and let her get a bit hungry for awhile.  Otherwise, you will be raising a spoiled pooch.
