But, anyways, We ended up with a wild rat in a humane trap.

The exterminator wont be here till Saturday to let the rat go a few miles from my house THIS IS A HUMANE EXTERMINATOR btw.

But, the poor lil guy would likely starve to death, or dehighdrate by the time saturday.

So, we have been feeding him lil bits of lettuce and celery ( becaus the veggies provide food and water for him ).

I would just like to know what else we can feed him that would help until saturday.

I dont want this poor rat to die!

Thank you all very much.

  1. all u have is get some cheese for the fella

  2. Rats will eat anything. Don't give it meat or sweets though. Fruits and veggies are fine.

  3. Gosh, I can't read I thought humane was human and didn't get it for the longest time! I think you're good with pretty much anything that's natural. He's pretty cute.

  4. Well, you obviously have dogs *Perfect Poms*, so if they're willing to 'share', put some dog food into the humane trap. It's a healthy food for them *cat food is too high in protein*, and will give him a rather 'well rounded' diet until he's released.

  5. Thankyou for saving the little guy, you did the right thing. As I have seen from the picture, he looks like a real cutie! You seem like you don`t know to much about rats and what they eat so here I have made up a few lists of what sort of food you can feed your rat.

You can feed rats mostly anything you would eat! Please, if you want him to survive provide fresh water.

Rat mixes/blocks are good, but as you are only keeping him for a couple for a couple of days, it is not nessacary, especially a wild rat.

Here is a list of food that you can feed him/her:

    Wholemeal Bread

    Milk (soy is the best)

Nuts (hazelnuts, peanuts, macadamia, soy nuts)

    Sunflower Seeds

    Pumpkin Seeds

    Baby Food/Rusks

Whole Grains (oats, puffed rice, puffed wheat, barley, wheatgerm)

Dried Fruits (cranberries, banana, apple. etc)

    Yogurt Drops

    Table Scraps

    Cooked Lean Meats

    Cooked Chicken Bones

    Unsalted Cracker

Dog Biscuits/Kibble (make sure it is low in fat and protein)

    Rice

    Raw/cooked pasta

    Muesli

    Tofu

    Cooked Beans

    Cheese

Here is a list of fruits:

    Blueberries

    Raspberries

    Strawberries

    Apple

    Melon (water mellon, honeydew. etc)

    Grapes

    Pears

    Banana

    Kiwi Fruit

Here is a list of vegetbales:

    Broccoli

    Bok Choy

Lettuce (not ice berg, has no nutritional value)

    Carrot

    Tomato

    Spinach

    Brussel Sprouts

    Cabbage

    Cucumber

    Zuccini

    Sweet Coen

    Peas

Sweet Potato (please cook it before feeding to rat as raw sweet potato is poisonous )

    Potato

    Cauliflower

    Celery

What NOT to feed your rat:

    Green Bananas

Carbonated Drinks (rats can not burp)

    Raw Bulk Tofu

    Raw Sweet Potato

Orange Juice (forbidden for male rats only)

    Raw beans

    Greeen Potato skin and eyes

    Wild insects (contain diseases)

Here is a list of websites for imformation on forbidden foods or other foods to feed your rats:

I hope this helps. Good luck!

  6. Rats can eat most anything a human can.  You could give him a little bit of chicken, or even a decent kind of dog food.  Be careful of too many veggies, as it could give him diarheea.  Carrots are good, though, and nutritious.  You could also give him crackers or bread.  None of that is ideal for him, but it'll keep him alive until Saturday.  (Though, for not much you could go out get some rat food, and a bottle and feed/water him that way...)

Try to keep him in a quiet/dark place too so he doesn't get majorly stressed.

  7. Good on you for not killing him but watch out for rabies etc. If he bites you then wash out the wound straight away. Give him dog biscuits or rat food and grapes. My mice loved grapes, lotsa water in them

  8. Nuts, berries, apples, any fruits, cheese, bread.. it's a rat, I'm sure the little dude will be happy with whatever you give him! :) It must be pretty hard for them to find food, I'm sure they eat out of dustbins anyway. Is he cute?

EDIT - Aww bless him! You should call him Scraps :) Bless, and good on you for using humane traps!!!

Thanks for the pics, he is lovely. Maybe you can make him a little cardboard house with some hamster bedding in, just so he's nice and cosy before he's released. You guys are so nice :)

So your nice AND physic!! :D I just hope you don't get too attached to the little fellow. I bet hes lovin' being captured! Thought of a name?

  9. please don't feed him cheese

go to your local pet shop they should sell rodent food
