What can I give my 3 1/2 week puppy that is throwing up?

The mom is not nursing the puppy so I have to bottle feed it with formula. I know it has to be with the mother for her to stimulate it to p**p and pee. But the mom does not want the dog. What can I do about this? As much as I try to stimulate it to p**p I don't think it is doing any good.

  1. If the puppy is that young and she's vomiting, you need to skip all home treatments and see a vet. You're playing with fire by not getting this baby the treatment she needs. There can be underlying issues such as intestinal parasites or worse, parvo. Vomiting leads to dehydration very quickly. After dehydration occurs, death can insue shortly thereafter. 3.5 week old babies are far too young and their systems too sensitive for any suggestive OTC medication. She needs veterinary care.

  2. Please call your vet!! I'm worried about the poor lil puppy!

  3. Get the puppy to a vet.

  4. you need to get that puppy to a vet. Sometimes they cannot poo/wee because they are constipated (your formula is mixed wrong or you are not using puppy formula) or they have an infection.

To stimulate it take some cotton balls and dip them in warm water, squeeze out the excess and then rub the a**s/genitals gently until the pup goes. Have some extra toilet paper or tissues handy to catch the mess. If you lie the pup on its back while you do it they may be more comfortable.

A 3 1/2 week old puppy should not be vomiting at all, and be careful it does not enter the lungs or it will develop pneumonia. Pups are so fragile, keep it next to a very warm towel wrapped hot water bottle (puppies cannot make their own body heat very well) and get it to a vet.

  5. First, call a vet.

What are you trying to feed it? Esbilac? Is she drinking it ok and then vomitting it?

To stimulate p**p, use a warm, wet washcloth or her r****m, it should help. Try to simulate what her mom would do.

Were there other puppies in the litter? What happens when you try to put her in while the others are nursing?

Nekbhet has a point, do keep her warm!

  6. u should ask a vet i am not sure it depends if people give u the wrong thing on this website it won't be good and plus what type of dog is it

  7. vet!

  8. Try luke warm water to dip your cotton balls in or fragrance free baby wipes. Do not try to over feed the pup at this age, speak to your vet and they will advise exactly how much formula the pup needs.  Make fresh each time you feed the pup.  Also every time you feed the formula make the next feed water so the dog does not get constipated.  You should go to the vets as the pup may need an e***a (sorry do not know how to spell). If you have had to feed the pup for a while do not despair you are doing well, you could also once the little mite is going to the toilet, try to get it on solids so you can feed alternate feeds one formula one rice pudding, broth, minced beef etc, etc.

Good luck and do not give up.

  9. Best to take ask a vets advice.  Apparently gently rubbing it's bottom with a soft cloth is suppose to do the job.  If it is throwing up then it may be allergic to the formula that you are giving it.

  10. If its a puppy it can have parvo,is she puking yellowish stuff, kinda watery?

    Is she drinking and eating?

If not then she probily has parvo!

I think You should take a trip to the vet!

    Hope your puppy gets better

  11. Is this the only surviving puppy?  If not, and mom is taking care of the others, then I think there may be something wrong with this one.

Mom seems to know if a pup isn't right.

If he is the sole survivor, then there might be something wrong with mom.

You can try putting a little Vaseline on him, and see if mom tries to clean it off, thereby stimulating him to evacuate and urinate.

Also, are you burping him during, and after feeding?  Pups swallow a lot of air when bottle fed, and that bubble in his stomach may force some of his food back out.  Just like a human baby with colic.

Good luck - I'm sure you feel frustrated right now.

ADD:  I'm glad to hear that your pup is doing better.  You may want to take mom in to the vet's to have a post-whelping check-up.  You can rule out a dire situation by taking her temperature - normal for a dog is 101 - 102.5F.  If it is 103 or higher, she needs to see the vet as soon as possible.

    Good luck!
