  1. a tummy massage. Google "Baby massage"

  2. at only 6 weeks I wouldnt give him anything without doctors advice.

when he is grunting lie him on his back and lift his legs to his chest. This works really well for my daughter.

I would take baby to the doctor though.

  3. Not all babies have a bowel movement everyday.  Breast milk is a natural laxative.  It is very digestible and a baby can utilize all the nutrients in it producing only urine as waste.  Some breast fed babies will go 2-3 days between bowel movements and sometimes even longer.  My own youngest daughter would often go 3-5 days between bowel movements and the longest she went was 10 days.  We monitored her and the doctor was consulted, but she was fine.  If your grandson isn't receiving breast milk, it is still possible for formula fed babies to go a day or two between bowel movements and even longer, also without any problems.  A newborn's digestive system has a lot of maturing to do before excess gas, tummy cramping, and bowel issues aren't the norm.  Your grandson probably just needs a little time for his system to pass his stool.  Unless he seems in excessive discomfort and his tummy is getting hard or distended there is little to worry about.  Many doctors suggest that you simply give it time and will ask you to wait as much as a week before intervening in the baby's natural process.  It gives his bowels the practice working if he is allowed to pass stool on his own.  Too much juice, Karo syrup, suppository use, or manual stimulation (such as by inserting a rectal thermometer coated with vaseline) actually works against a baby's natural system as it can get too dependent on needing an outside source to move the bowels.  Especially with formula fed babies, a particular formula can just not sit right with a baby and it may need to be changed to a different brand or type.  Breast fed babies can experience some tummy discomfort if mom has eaten something that doesn't sit right as well.  You can try laying your grandson down on the bed or floor and move his legs in a bicyle type motion.  This can help pass gas which in turn can help bowels move.  For now, I wouldn't attempt to give your grandson anything by mouth except breast milk or formula unless his doctor says so.  Constipation usually results in small, pebble like stool, which is a bit unusual in babies who are only receiving a liquid diet.

  4. You can give him any jucie that starts with a P

    Prune juice,pear juice, peach ect....

  5. Is he breastfed?  That's his best option (as BF babies rarely if ever get constipated).  If not, give him a bottle of 1/2 water, 1/2 apple juice.  Six weeks is when they start to even out..bottle fed babies might only p**p every other day and it's okay.  Don't give him any more corn syrup though..totally not good for their system!

  6. Just because he has not gone since yesterday does not mean he is constipated. At 6 weeks he does not need anything. If you start giving him laxatives it can affect his bowels and cause his bowel to be lazy and rely on things to help him go. Some breastfed babies do not go for up to 2 weeks and medically that is considered ok. He doesnt need anything. If he is in a little discomfort just give his tummy a little massage.

  7. Infant size glycerine suppository - should make him do a smelly in under 20 minutes

  8. It's ok if he hasn't gone since yesterday. Every other day to every 2 days is normal. But you can try coating a thermometer with vaseline and inserting it into his bottom part way. That usually helps stimulate him to go. Massage his belly. Lay him on his back and push his legs up to his chest gently.

  9. How much & how often did you giv ethe Karo syrup? My mom told me to try it with my 8 week old baby who was about 3 weeks at the time. I put 1 teaspoon of Karo in 4oz of formula but it took her a couple bottles (about 2 or 3) for it to work on her.
