  1. I been to Munich many times, which is the heart of Bavaria. you have to see Neuschwanstein castle, along with Frauenkirche,  Cathedral in Freising, and the Paulinar beer garden. That should be a good start.

  2. Add to the above...Schloss Linderhof, Oberammergau, Kloster Ettal, Wieskirche, Echelsbacher Bruecke (all within 20 minutes of each other) ...all near Garmisch-Partenkirchen...about an hours drive or 1 1/2 hours with the train from Munich. In Munich, just for the touristy-ness of it, you must visit the HofbraeuHaus...right across the street from the Hard Rock Cafe.

  3. I'm very fond of Passau. The Cathedral and the Organ concerts are something out of this world. You can take a 3-River-Cruise (Ilz, Inn and Danube join their waters in Passau) and visit the city castle Veste Oberhaus. BTW, there is a Youth Hostel in the Veste Oberhaus - if you are under 26 or are travelling with kids you can sleep there.

  4. Those were good things to see...but don't forget the smaller towns they have wonderful fests....Sonthofen is wonderful and they have great ride on the ski slopes...the view is incredible.  You can also visit the famous Starzlachklamm. It's an example of untamed nature near Sonthofen where you can see a lot of fossils (e.g. a crab). You can also reach the Starzlachklamm by bike. And is you are brave enough..rafting down the Iller and other rivers is also great fun. Prost...enjoy

  5. Add to this list The Eagle's Nest (Hitler's house on the hills), white-water rafting in Chemsee, the salt mines near Garmish (or is that Chemsee too?).  Anything in Munich like Oktoberfest, the new stadium, try and get a show/concert/whatever.  Move north a bit to Ingolstadt and see the Audi plant (if you're into Audis, if not BMW has one in Munich).  Ansbach is a nice city with the Orangerie being a beautiful place to spend a nice afternoon.  Nuernberg is awsome, stay inside the old wall and there is much to see and do.

This time of year in Germany there are MANY spring fests all over Bavaria.  Rides, music, beer, apfelkorn (yum!), great food, lots of people, table dancing (those fest tables look small but can hold 10 people EASY!).

This is a great time to visit Germany.  Have fun !!
