What plants can I put around the perimeter of our patio to repel mosquitoes? We live in the mid-Atlantic. The patio and surrounding area are covered in shade from a dense canopy of mulberry trees. I love the shade so I don't want to trim the trees.

  1. there is a plant called the mosquitoe plant .i have two .they smell like citranelli.go to home depo or a garden shop elsewhere

  2. I don't know of any plants that repel mosquitos. You will have to resort to chemical warfare if you want to get rid of them.

  3. Don't waste your time and money on citronella plants to repel mosquitoes - it a marketing ploy to get your money. There are not plants that will do what you want. Elimate and standing water there mosquitoes might breed. Use repelents. Increase the level of sun and wind by triming trees and brush.

  4. citronella plants work best to repel mosquitoes its where the oil is derived from for candles and other products to repel the nasty and harmful bugs  i ordered mine fron a catalog called spring hill i'm sure you can google it for a website

  5. This is not a repellent but a trap (link below) that can be made with common supplies.  It uses yeast to generate carbon dioxide, which attracts mosquitoes.  Use it to lead mosquitoes away from guests (place the trap in dark corners).

There's a commercial model that uses propane as the source for the production of carbon dioxide.  Expensive, I think.
