  1. What you plant now depends on your location.  We have 11 zones according to the US Department of Agriculture which lists the "Frost zones."  I live in southern Arizona and am in Zone 8; I have four more growing months.

Blueberries planted now will grow fruit next year. Make sure the soil is very acidic (pine needles may help some there).  They will need plant food for acid-loving plants.

So, look over the zones and make a smart decision based on what you want to grow/eat.  Don't just grow it because it can.

  2. Hi:

I am a landscaper and designer. Your climate zone will play a big part on planting now. I live in zone 7 and have planted trees, flowers and shrub this time of year. The main goal is to properly prepare your ground and once specimens are planted, get on a good watering schedule. You can apply pine straw, mulch or decorative rocks around the plants to help retain the moisture in the ground.

If you live in a warm and hot climate, I do usually recommend to wait until fall to plant large trees and bigger shrubs. An idea for you to think about is go ahead and plan for some annual or pernnial flowers that will bloom in the fall. Sedum is a great flower for fall color as well as Mums.  If you live in an area where the ground doesn't freeze in winter, in the fall you can plant some Camellias and Pieis Japonicas and have color throughout the winter months.

I will link you to the gallery of plants section and the variety of more plant section of my website. There are many different photos of plants, with climate zones and descriptions. These pages many give you additional ideas to think about planting now and in the fall. I hope this information helps some. Another idea is to plant some herbs. You can put them in containers and use them year around. I will link you to the spices and herb section also. There are varieties you could grow now. Have a great day!

  3. I was late as well with my garden so I made a pretty flower garden with a bench and stuff in the middle and I put the perrenials towards the back so if next year we wanted to have a vegetable garden we could. We also planted Bell Peppers and Tomatoes too and they are doing great! Good Luck!
