What can I put on my Shower Curtain rod to make my rings slide smoother?

My shower curtain rings don't slide very good on my shower curtain rod. Besides getting a new rod, is there something I can do to make it easier for my rings to slide?

You could apply some car wax if it's smooth or rub it with some candle wax.
