Question:

What can I put on my nickel belt buckles to prevent nickel rash and irritation on my stomach?

All of my belt's buckles are made of nickel. The nickel irritates my stomach and gives me a painful, itchy rash. What are some ways that I can cover up the nickel to avoid contact with my skin?

It's not an option for me to just buy new belts or not wear them at all. And I'm not going to tuck in my shirt either.

Thank you ahead of time.

  1. Spray polyurethane on it, let it dry, then a couple more coats.  It should last for a while before you have to do it again.

Or clear nail polish.  Again, a couple of coats.  When it begins to flake and chip, it could be irritating, but hopefully it would last for a while.

You are apparently allergic to the metal.  Nickel allergies are very common.  You could get some OTC hydrocortisone 1% creme at the drugstore (or even Wal-Mart) if the rash gets too bad.  You definitely want to keep the metal covered because the allergy can get much worse if you are continually exposing yourself to it.   Also, a lot of earring posts & backs are made of nickel, so you may need to get rid of some of those too.

  2. I agree with Skittles.  Several coats of clear nail polish should do the trick.  Check the buckle often to see if you need to reapply more polish because it does rub off over time.

  3. Paint them with clear nail polish. LEt it dry and your good to good.

  4. I am a CCMA and I also have my own jewelry business on the side..

There is a product that you can purchase at Michael's or any bead store that almost looks like clear nail polish and it keeps you from having a reaction to nickle

Nail polish chips off . This stuff does not
