Question:

What can I send to Australia from the US that they don't have there?

I am in a swap and I am looking for items which are loved but not sold or too expensive to buy in AU. I've read that they do not have Kool-Aid there and Reese PB cups are too expensive to buy, is this true? Any other suggestions? The items need to be easy to send so it doesn't get stuck in customs-- think flat more then anything

  1. No we don't have Kool-Aid but we do have in Melbourne an American food store which sells a lot of stuff including Reese's (EVIL! ADDICTIVE!)...they aren't too expensive but certainly more than what you'd pay in the states.

If you're looking for something to send, try something uniquely American and not necessarily food.

For instance, when I last travelled I took with me pouches that were made from kangaroo s*****m as gifts.

What is expensive here are books...we pay 20-22 bucks per paperback here while prices are still very cheap in the US so maybe send a couple of good books .  Oh yeah...we do have marshmallows...where would you get that idea???

  2. We have Kool-Aid, its the same as our cordial.

PB cups, yuk and won't pass through customs because of the nuts.

    We have marshmallows.

Things like Revlon and Maybelline are a bit more pricey in Australia then in America. As too are Levi's as mentioned, around the $200 mark in Aus. Chocolate can be more expensive here too.

To get through customs it doesn't need to be flat, it just needs to be free of contaminants like nuts.

  3. Yes, we do have marshmallow.

Rice Crispies are called Rice Bubbles here.

We have flavoured drink additives but they don't usually come in powdered form like Kool Aid. Many years ago we had flavour bases like Kool Aid but they stopped being produced sometime in the 1960s.

The liquid flavour bases are called cordial here.

Brands like Cottees and Golden Circle.

Reese PB cups are not available in our grocery shops but from what I've heard it's no great loss.

Australians, generally, aren't terribly impressed with chocolates etc from the USA.

The Oreo cookie is widely available and I don't know too many people who like them. Most people prefer the Australian equivalent.

  4. We do get peanut butter cups but most of us think the combination is just plain wrong! We get American stuff here and is Kook Aid a powdered fdrink mix or is it like Mountain dew.  Customs will only stop meat, things with seeds that could possibly be sprouted, honey and stuff like fruit.

Of course we have marshmallows! What else do you think we don't have that I can laugh at!

  5. While I was in Australia last time, used American Levi's jeans were selling for $100 to $150  a pair.  I'm talking about badly used jeans.  There's places in California that buy used Levis... always wonderred where they were shipping them to.

  6. PB cups would melt, and make a mess.  I heard that marshmallows are not available, and so they don't make Rice Krispie squares.  Don't know about Kool-Aid
