  1. For my daughters first bday we had it in our back yard with some kiddie pools out she loves the water and just had a blast playing. We also had some juice boxes for the kids, cut up fruit, and served hamburgers and hot dogs. The stuff most kids love! For the first bday its tough because they are still so young and don't know whats going on so its fine to just keep it simple stuff she loves to enjoy doing!

  2. One thing i would have for the kids is some kind of fruit salad, you can have a big bowl and have some light whipped cream or sugar free whipped cream and just serve it in a little bowl with the whipped cream on top ,the kids will love it and its healthy.

  3. The rule for guest is one to the age of the child.

At one this should be for the parents and family..

It will be nice to take pictures or video but....nothing else

other than happy b-day song and opening presents.

Maybe a family dinner before the cake.

Remember babies at one are afraid of clowns and crowds..

    along with loud noises.

  4. I'm wondering the same thing.  Right now, my plans are:

Pumpkin bread cake.  Since her's is in November.  Otherwise I'd consider banana bread (hold the walnuts) or something like Angel Food cake.

Jello (instead of icecream, and you can make it a little less concentrated)

Little cups of Mandarin Orange slices

Little cups of Pear/peach bits (with these, just look around you can usually find low to no sugar varieties.)

    Sweet potato fries

And then the rest will be actually Thanksgiving dinner (her birthday is very close to Thanksgiving.)

I just sort of plan on "baby fare" and "everyone else fare".

For activities... we're planning on sing-alongs, clapping games, we've got shaking instruments that we can hand everyone and then sing and shake things.  Some movies may be put on in the background (she just LOVES Finding Nemo for whatever reason...)  If it would be warmer I'd consider going to the park and letting kids do swings and grass and the like.  But rolling balls back and forth, we have a penguin bowling game, maybe we'll get some foam type blocks before then for building.

I would sort of like to have a poster that everyone puts their handprint on though.  For that, just a piece of poster board, non-toxic craft paint, and then a paintbrush.  Paint it on everyone's hands and then have them put it on the board and their name on it.  Her's in the  middle of course.  Nothing too huge if possible, small enough to go in her memory box or on her wall to remember things.  You could have everyone's hands overlap around the edge/frame and her's in the middle sort of like a place of honor.  But basically... I like the idea of her having something like that.
