Ok, I have a 10x10 area that needs to be covered. I have set up an enclosed area in my living room for my airbrush tanning business. I cannot take a chance on ruining the existing carpet, so I need something 10x10 to put over it. I cannot find a 10x10 rug. (And if I could, it would be way too expensive) The man at Home Depot says cutting vinyl or carpet to that size would roll up on me. I htought about sheets, but they would get to crumpled under the feet. HELP! I need an idea!

  1. You can buy large canvas drop cloths very cheap in the paint sections of hardware stores. You can tack it down along the edges and corners with staples if you have carpet or tape if you have hardwood or something else that would show the staples holes when you remove it.

  2. you can get vinyl  or carpet, but just make sure you put carpet tacks down! they are easy to use, and you can get them from any diy store!

  3. Rubber roofing!  Comes on 6' and 12' rolls!  Get a 10' X 12' piece and then when not in use you can roll it up!

VERY durable and will resist any and all spills  HECK it is for a roof!

Check with local roofing suppliers in your yellow pages!

We cut a piece to fit over our dinning room table, then when the kids are painting or doing crafts we roll it out and it protects the table and is easy clean up for messes!

  4. Use vinyl carpet runners and overlap the edge..

  5. Have you ever gone into a new construction house that has it's wood floors covered. They have a white runner type product that you can lay overany surface to protect it.

you will have to overlay it.

it's white and a little padded so it's not like paper and it wont rip

  6. indoor outdoor carpet, or  I would go to a carpet store and ask them for remnants, they always have pcs that size left over from their large rolls.  use double stick tape, also known as carpet tape to tape it down.

either way, i would go with carpet, easier on the feet while your working.

  7. If this is to be a semi-permanent thing, i.e. you don't want/need to take it up every night, I suggest you construct yourself a 10x10 square of floating laminate floor - the click-together kind. They make both tiles and planks these days, out of various waterproof materials, not just wood laminate.

You'll end up with something very similar to the portable dance floors they set up in hotels. You may even want to look for some of that black rubber edging they put around such floors to prevent people tripping on the edge. (Though this depends on what exactly you mean by "enclosed area" - are we talking walls, in which case nevermind, or curtains?)

In any case, a floor that looks like it could be permanently installed (even if it isn't) will look much more professional than any of the dropcloth-like suggestions.

  8. What about tarps, such as what professional painters use? And you should be able to weigh or otherwise pin it down.

    Good luck with your business!

  9. they have large plastic drop cloths they use to cover roofs when they are shingling very durable and rather cheap
