Question:

What can I use in place of grain alcohol in a Jungle Juice recipe?

I have this recipe for Jungle Juice that I'd like to try, but it calls for 190 proof grain alcohol (along with a bunch of rum and vodka). I don't know about you, but that might be a little over-kill in my opinion. Jungle Juice is supposed to be strong, but d**n! Is there something (with alcohol) you would substitute for the grain alcohol? Or would you just leave it out?

Here's the recipe for reference:

2 (750 milliliter) bottles rum

1 (750 milliliter) bottle vodka

1 (750 milliliter) bottle 190 proof grain alcohol

1 gallon cranberry juice

1 (2 liter) bottle chilled lemon-lime soda

1 quart grape juice

4 cups halved fresh strawberries

12 kiwis, peeled and quartered

6 oranges, peeled and segmented

1 bunch grapes, separated and rinsed

1 large watermelon, cubed and seeded

  1. It sounds like it's lacking me!

Really, we drink something like this while we are ice fishing, and it's great!!!!!!!!!!

  2. It looks like you're having fun with a home made drink? take out 90% of it  i would join you

  3. I would either leave it in or double up on the vodka.  Perhaps use one of the the Absolut Citron, Mandrin, Kurant, Raspberri or Apeach flavors for the additional fruitiness.

  4. Put it in. It seems like a lot, but with all the fruit to soak it up and all the juice to mix with it, it will be good.

  5. grain alcohols are otherwise called "whiskey", and take your pick of which one you want to use.

  6. The pure grain alcohol is the best part. I would maybe leave out the rum and/or vodka if you want to make it less potent. It gets you drunk w/o a bad taste.

  7. I would use double the vodka, or even three times the amount, but it will water down the flavor.

  8. you can use gin or whiskey
