What can I use to clean the mold off of the wall in the spare bedroom?

I noticed it when we were cleaning out the room. Its close to the bottom maybe only a foot up the wall. The house is very old, but within the last 4-6 months, has had new windows, siding, and a roof. So I'm hoping if I clean it off, it won't come back.

  1. I heard that spraying bleach on it will kill it if you repeat it but you have to treat the source because if you dont it will just come back.

  2. To get rid of mold you need pure bleach , open the window up first of all , you will then wipe that wall area with a cloth or mop and the bleach ,this will kill the mold , but if you are expecting you best off to let someone else tend to it , the fumes of the bleach can effect your breathing, this is why I told you to have an open window , It will work!

  3. Use a solution of 50% bleach and 50% water. It will kill the mold and get rid of it.

  4. Here is the problem. Black mold can be a type of mold that is very dangerous to people, especially babies. I'm going to tell you how to get rid of common mold. If it doesn't stay gone, you need to keep your baby out of that room and get in a professional.

Mold grows in dampness. See if you can find a leak. The old windows were probably the reason but check anyway.

Combine vinegar, bleach and a little (very little) water, about 1/4 vinegar, 3/4 bleach, half a cup or so of water, put it in a sprayer. A spray bottle will work but take longer. Don't use a Windex bottle or any product that might contain amonia without washing the bottle first.

Spray the mold. Douse it. Let it set.  The mold should disappear. Make sure you go over it as many times as it takes to eliminate every speck of mold. Then wash the wall with something like Mr. Clean.  Rinse. That should kill the mold. Do the entire wall and under any other windows.

But it isn't enough to kill it. If the wall is made of wallboard the mold is in the wallboard and will grow back. You can't take that chance with a baby.  The ideal solution would be to have that wallboard taken down, replaced. Big bucks I know, but best. If the house is old and the wall is plaster you have a better chance that it won't grow back.

Second best is a paint primer called Kiltz. Put a fan on the wall to dry it after washing. Paint over it with Kiltz. This kills mold. It is also a tad expensive, but cheaper than wall removal and it works. Paint over the Kiltz with whatever you wish after it dries. Don't paper it for a few months, until you know for sure the mold is going to stay gone.

When I say scrub the wall with bleach solution and then paint over it, I, of course, mean someone who is not pregnant should do this. Under no circumstances should Mommy-to-be fool with mold, bleach or paint..

If you have carpet in that room, remove it, bleach the floor.  If possible, remove the baseboard and either replace it or bleach/kiltz under it and put it back.   Good luck on the wall, congratulations on the baby.

  5. Bleach and borax are both great mold killers. HOWEVER, if the wall is drywall, that might have to be replaced. You need to be very careful of mold, especially with infants.
