Question:

What can I use to cover the mirror?

I have a 5x5 mirror in this room that I am turning into a workroom or a "craft"room. I can't take the mirror down because it will ruin the wall and technically the room is a dining room (we are planning to sell in the next couple of years).

Anyways, I have a work table under the mirror and want to make a cork board above the table. What kind of backing can I put on the mirror under the cork boards? Something I can take down when we sell and the mirror won't be ruined...

I tried foam board with the self adhesive stuff on the back and it didn't hold the weight of the cork board (I have cork board tiles).

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

  1. You could glue the cork board tiles to fabric using contact cement then attache the fabric to the mirror using curtain drapery pins stuck into the fabric and hooked over the top edge of the mirror.  Or even hang it from a wall mounted curtain rod mounted above the mirror.

If you are concerned about the weight of the cork board plus whatever you stick on it pulling the mirror down then you should try to mount the cork board backing material directly to the wall and not hang it on the mirror.  The cork tiles could be glued to something like thin plywood that is wider and taller than the mirror and then attached to the wall above, below and sides around the mirror using picture hooks and hangers or screws with molley bolts or hollow wall fasteners.  Then when you take it down you can patch the holes and repaint the wall.

  2. I would attach the cork board to a thin sheet of plywood that you could attach to the wall above the mirror.  You will need to use a spacer the thickness of the mirror at the top.
