Question:

What can I use to get the streaks off my car's windshield?

My old car has streaks or some kind of film caused by the wiper blades being used so much over the years. I was wondering if there is some kind of home solution to this like vinegar and mild soap being combined into a solvent to rub off this streaky film. I'm sure that I can find something an Auto Zone or something but I don't want to spend the money cause I'm cheap. Any suggestions will do. Thanks!

  1. Try tooth paste or some other mild abrasive.

  2. you can try a can of coke with a razor blade and water.  first put a little coke on windshield run razor blade over area and wash off after done.  see how well it comes out before you do the hole windshield, sometimes works.

  3. find a windscreen fitter and ask if he can give you some "Jewelers rouge", it's a pinkish colored powder, and windscreen fitters sometimes use it to polish scratches out of glass. obviously it's used in the jewelery profession too to polish gold, silver etc.

I use it myself for a variety of things, I made some rings from 440 grade stainless steel (surgical grade) by hand, and I use the powder to polish them up, stainless is a very hard metal, and if it can polish the rings up to a perfect mirror finish, it will certainly polish glass and 90% of coatings off them

  4. you can use a razor blade and window cleaner.  the razor does a good job of getting stuff off the window use the window cleaner after.  It's faster if you use a one of those long blades that break off I can't remember what they're called though.

  5. Go to a jewelery store and get some jewelers rouge. It is a product designed to clean up jewelery but it does wonders for small scratches and streaks on windshields. Your other option is going to be to replace the glass. good luck.
