I've gone through an entire bag of bird food in one week and I highly doubt that birds ate all of it. I have seen squirrels up there several times just throwing out the seed and picking out what they like... How can i keep them out of the feeder? Are there tastes they don't like?

  1. don't have to use a squirrel-proof feeder. Start with a branch hook high in a tree, attach a thin wire (I use welding wire) to the branch hook and hang your feeder from that wire. If the wire hangs at least 4 feet down from the nearest branch and 5 to 6 feet from the trunk of the tree, the feeder is safe. The squirrels can't climb down the thin wire and can't jump over from the trunk. You must use a wire and not rope or chain, the rope or chain gives them something to grip as they try to climb down. I've done this to my feeders and have not seen one squirrel on them. To help reach the feeders for refilling, use an extension hook.

  2. go to like a lawn/garden store around your house or maybe wal-mart, but they have these things that go onto your pole that prevent squirrels from getting up there. They are kinda pyramid shaped looking.  They will know what you are talking about.  Good Luck!

  3. Perhaps if you place a small round basin fill it with water & place the bird seed in a dish in the middle like on an island.?

If they wont want to get wet your birdseed is safe~~~~if not you need to go more high-tech.

    cheers.

  4. Feed the squirrels peanuts or sunflower seeds and they will leave bird feeder alone. It works for me.

  5. I put a thin sheet of metal around my pole the they can't climb it
