Question:

What can I use to kill black mold under the kitchen sink

It's on the bottom of the boards under the sink and also on the outside of the drainage pipe. I know, black mold isn't a good thing at all. I don't need lectures on how bad it is. We all know how bad it is :) I just need suggestions on how to kill it. Bleach, water, vinegar? And if so in what combination/proportion?

  1. I would wipe it with either bleach or borax. You may have to wipe it a few times but the bleach will kill the mold.

You can also use vinegar and washing soda but if its really bad I would take straight bleach to it and kill it all.

  2. Things You’ll Need:

    Bathroom mold-and-mildew remover

    Protective rubber gloves

    Sponge

    Water

    Bucket

    Sealer/primer paint

    Step1

When removing mold from walls, you may want to cover your face with a cloth, especially if you have mold allergies.

    Step2

Protect the flooring in the area you are about to clean by taping a thick plastic tarp to the floor.

    Step3

Using a normal bathroom mold-and-mildew remover, spray the area of the wall and wait about 10 minutes.

    Step4

Using a bucket of clean water, wash down the wall to remove the stain and all of the bleach cleaner. Most of the stain should be gone at this point.

    Step5

Use a sponge to apply bleach gel to any remaining mold spots and allow it to sit for 15 to 20 minutes. Then wash the wall clean.

    Step6

If any mold spots remain on the wall, you will have to paint the wall. Before you paint the wall, you need to paint it with a primer sealer product such as Kilz.

  3. Bleach

  4. The EPA now recommends AGAINST using bleach...

Check out the remarkable research on toxic mold removal done by environmental expert Dr Ed Close. Simply diffusing a therapeutic-grade essential oil regularly will likely result in an environment very hostile to mold.

Cost of the Thieves Household Cleaner, a diffuser and a couple bottles of the Thieves oil that Dr Close recommends to his remediation clients: about $250.

  6. Here is the answer to your question. I copied it from an excellent ebook available at the source below on black mold and how to rid your home of it. This answer applies to your particular area of mold growth under the sink.

You will want to use a bleach-water solution mixture of 1 Part Chlorine Bleach to 10 Parts Water. This is roughly One-Half to Three-Fourths Cup of Bleach to 1 Gallon of Water. You may also want to purchase some disposable cleaning supplies for this job as you won't want to hang on to them as they will become contaminated afterwards. So a pair of nonporous rubber gloves, a few dollar sponges and/or hand held scrubbers would be perfect, depending on where the mold is growing.

There is no need to leave the bleach-water solution set for any amount of time. Simply spray it on, wait for a duration of around 10 to 15 minutes, and then scrub the mold until the surface comes clean and clear of mold. You may want to leave the bleach solution set for a few minutes longer to loosen up those hard to scrub moldy areas before trying to reclean and remove the mold.

The ebook goes into details about getting rid of black mold in other areas of your house and how to prevent the growth of black mold, where to look for it in other areas of house, etc...

  7. Yes, bleach will kill it. The problem is that if the damp conditions are not taken care of it will return.

Have you checked for a water leak?

And, it's probably mildew, not stachybotris.
